Jaguar Mechanic in Wellington

Hi, I'm trying to locate a good Jag Mechanic in Wellington as I'm desperate to have my Differential fixed. Plurry Car dealer convinced me it was road noise but its getting more noticeable. I've no idea what this could cost or even where to get the parts for it. Oh, it's a 2006 S-Type 3L. nice car, pity about the diff. grrrr.

Hi,
Apologies for the slow reply, I don't check this part of the forum regularly.
In Wellington there are two main places people go, the first is Armstrong Prestige, the local Jaguar dealer, and the second is the Toy Shop.

I use Armstrongs, but it comes down to personal preference. Both will cost you more than a 'local garage', but then they have specific Jaguar expertise as well.
My best advice, if you haven't fixed this already, is go in and talk to them, work out what parts you need, then source them yourself, and get them to fit them. The service team at Armstrong are great to deal with, but if you have to deal with the parts department then you will pay Jaguar prices.

FYI I had my diff replaced on my XJR, and sourced a rebuilt unit from the UK for $3000... Armstrong would've asked more than twice that for the same part. It's not their fault though, the parts prices are dictated by Jaguar Auckland.

Also, have you looked at joining either/both of the local Jag clubs? There is the Wellington Jaguar Drivers Club, and the Hutt Valley Jaguar Enthusiasts Club

Jaguar Mechanic Wellington

I have only just joined the forum. For the past four years my 1966 Mark 2 has been serviced by Ray Hartley Motors at 18 Haining Street (Telephone 3844459). Ray himself was Sybil Lupp's last apprentice and knows a great deal about Jaguars of all types, regularly services them and confidently and comprehensively answers any questions put to him. He has my car starting first time, every time. He services several other of our family's cars and I am perfectly happy that his charges are reasonable and his work is of the highest standard. When necessary he will send the car off to Armstrong Prestige for the benefit of their diagnostic equipment so you get the best of both worlds
