Un-Japanese an Import (X358)
Some good news for Japanese Imports, although I only have knowledge of the X358 (XJ6/XJ8).
It can be un-Japanesed! This was done by the dealer with assistance of a Jaguar specialist (in East Auckland I suspect), so don't ask me how to do it.
1. The Japanese voice can be disabled. They removed a black box bottom right of the dash/steering wheel.
2. The main LCD display (Climate, Audio, Nav etc) can already be language-changed.
3. NZ FM Frequencies can be set with no need of a band expander.
4. NZ Nav maps available (cost me $250)
and of course...
5. a window scraper to remove those pesky import stickers.
My car also has a complete service history record from Japan, so it's available if the dealer makes the effort. The service book is in Japanese of course, as is the owner manual, but the service dates can be read.
----------
XK8 (X100-Series 1) - I looked at one of these but the "Door Open" in the odometer space was in Japanese. Whilst the dealer was helpful, he didn't know how to change it or if it can be changed. That wasn't the deciding factor in my choosing a saloon of course.
