Jag XJS Rack and Pinion '62 Ford F100
Hello,
I've been searching the web with no results concerning whether a Saginaw power steering pump is okay to use with the XJS rack and pinion. I purchased a '62 Ford F100 pickup from a guy that installed the rack/pinion steering and used what looks like an old Saginaw pump. I can hear a "whising" sound when I turn and sometimes while at a stop, turning the steering wheel, I hear a "groan" and for an instant during the groan there is no power assist. Just for an instant. I'm going to go ahead and get a new Saginaw pump. Is there a certain PSI the rack and pinion requires? Or can I just install the Saginaw, fill with fluid, break the pump in and drive off into the sunset? Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

350 views now! I for one thought that you were showing something you had done and with your user name thought oh, there might be a pic of a nice rat rod truck. Maybe something like help needed in the title would have helped. Old news now I guess, hope you got it sorted out.

Hi yarpos,
Found out, finally, that older Jags used the Saginaw pump. Right now I'm in the middle of installing a new pump AND a rack and pinion unit. :icon_dance-cpatch: PS, I'd post a photo but I'm not sure how to. But here it goes. |
