Talking Finally Back Online!

Last week my computer suddenly Refused to talk to the outside world.
Refused I say!

It's been getting more and more recalcitrant over the past year, but I could still make it work with a reboot. Reboots were getting more and more frequent until even that didn't work.

To make things just a little more interesting, it's one of those motherboards where Everything is integrated on the board, probably in one giant chip. So the search was on for a PCI Ethernet card. Not just Any ordinary Ethernet card mind you for a mere dollar two ninety-eight, but a FAST Ethernet card!

So husband, my Speed-Parts finder, located a Gigabit card that's so fast if you blink you miss it! Much faster surfing! It's almost like having a whole new computer!

Cyber withdrawals here were Really BAD!!

Good to have you back. I have four computers, when the last one breaks I fix all four. Typical for a man huh?

I'm down from 4 to 3, but the trusty 15 year old XP laptop is still going strong. Anything newer than windows 7 is not my game. The dead one is windows 10 so no great loss. The other two have vista & 7 so they are useable.

Finally got a smart phone with data, 15 gb/month. I have used about 300 mb per month so far. How could anyone use 15 gb in a month?

Cricket is a bit like watching grass grow, except something happens when you watch the grass

Apart from the hey days when NZ had Sir Richard Hadlee & Lance Cairns. That was when the world series crickt was great. I could watch a whole one day match then....never did get the idea of 3 or 5 days for one game.

I hear you, I've got W7 on all of mine. After all the shenanigans Bill did to make me buy 10, I just dug in my heels and said no,no,no.

I fear I'll end up with Linux eventually, unless I get too senile before then.

.........the lenghts I had to go to stopping the W10 free upgrades. I had to google every update number & block the the ones that did self upgrades(and find them somewhere in the system because they still snuck in with auto update turnd off). I had to reload windows 7 from disc once because one slipped by on a PC the kids used.

I'm not saying that they are rubbish.
It's just that one of the first phrases that you learn as a boy over here is 'England middle order collapse'.
At least we are never disappointed when it happens.
A bit like Scotland qualifying for the World Cup

Love those windows 10 updates. Major one over the weekend on my work computer took over 2 hours to reboot! So much for my project before the retail stores open.

Gee now I can pin contacts to my task bar and contact them at will. I sure hope nobody uses that.

Does Australia have a musical equivalent to Battle of the Banjos?
From Deliverance if you don't what the tune is.
Gives you a whole new perspective on pork.
Sorry, digressing again.

Linux Mint is very simple to install and very Windows like in look and feel. I like the way you have control over updates under Linux. Been running on my garage PC trouble free for about a year now

15GB Wouldnt keep my daughter in cat videos

Personally I find the Internet on a phone a pretty miserable experience, I struggle to use 1GB on my cheap **** Aldi subscrpition (which they have a 1.5G bonus on for the first couple of months of the year). Wasted on me. I do however live on my laptop and we stream lotso stuff so the house has unlimited internet.

Up to 225mb this month and 4 days to go before it tops up again. We get unlimited useage off the nieghbour(exchange for mowing his lawn) for the PC,s.
But I have worked out how to use the hotspot thing from the phone on my laptop & her ipad. Might be handy if we are away from home & feel the need for internet. We have managed so far without internet when we are away, can't really see us starting now.

For sale on a local site. Seller is asking for offers.
No idea where to even begin with an offer.
