For all those who haven't looked under their Jaguar cars and SUVs after a harsh winter of salt and snow...

You can take your vehicle to have your local car wash raise it up in the air and steam-gun the underside... But there's a great alternative to that. Fill a garden pump-sprayer with a solution of dishwashing soap, hot water, and six tablespoons of ordinary baking soda. Stick the wand everywhere under the car and wheel wells that your arm can reach (or sucker your kid into doing it for you while you pump the sprayer).

Leave the stuff ton the surface if you want---it dries spotty white everywhere it touches. The water drips it into nooks and crannies, the soap makes it cling to the metal for weeks, and the soda flat-neutralizes the salt from starting to corrode anything.

A week later you can try hosing the underside if you're picky about a neat clean undercarraige---or let Mother Nature spray it away in the next few rainstorms you drive through. No need to Rush, cuz there's no sodium activation to Rust.

...And some of us XE owners have noticed there are a couple of locations under there that seem to start rusting in the first six months of driving. What the?!!!

Use sodium carbonate, not sodium bicarbonate. NOT baking soda.

Yikes, no. I think it's Sodium BI_Carbonite that neutralizes the salt by introducing a heavy alkaline chemistry. At least that's what was explained to me when I learned about it.
Several of the various websites seem to say it too. Regular Baking Soda (Bi carbonate).

The CAR-bonite version you may be referring to is the Soda Ash, right? I know that's a powerful cleaner too, but I hear it's SO alkaline that you don't even want to get it on your skin because it irritates. I didn't think that was the one they recommended for neutralizing salt.

Let me know if I'm wrong though. Learning this stuff is fun!

Finally reached 16 degrees Celsius here in NY. Salt residue is nearly all off my car, and I popped the moonroof (...I LUUUV moonroofs)---I popped the moonroof just enough to go around the edges and gently wipe out the winter's dirt.

Sunrroofs are often the most neglected part of your cabin (we clean our grungy carpets and spare tire area before we remember to inspect and clean our sunroofs).
It was time to prep and ready mine for some springtime ventilation. Haven't used it yet this year, but.... it's nearly time to take a drive with it open.

Today, for the first time in Months, there is NO RAIN in the foreseeable future!!
Nix is off her jack stands, all 4 feet on the floor, all winter maintenance completed, and she's Read to Roll!

Now though, it's about to be Wind season today, with 20mph winds from the North!
arrrrgggghh!

Yes it is, variable April, but slooooowly getting warmer. Prob here is that you get a clear blue sky and then there is that nasty cold wind from North or East.

Only in Wisconsin/Minnesota can you cancel state wide tornado drills due to a blizzard, during a flood.

I thought the sky was a shade too blue, the grass a tad green and the temperature excessively moderate today. So I sat on the deck with red wine to work out what was wrong. I was unsuccessful, so I will try again tommorrow.

Same here Steve,

Sunny, warm, and getting into the low 30's (C) next week, and we'are damn near in Winter.

NO rain, bloody dry.

Looks like the drought will continue, and give the election Wombats a newer subject, HAHAHA.

Just had a wild thunder storm go thru here, 12:00 Pm to 12:20 Pm . 0.6" of rain in 20 minutes with lots of hail. Now the sun is on it's way for (hopefully) a long time.

Jag was just out in the driveway for about 4 hours and is covered in thick pollen.

This has been the worst I have known it here and it has been like this for several weeks at least.

In the past 3 days we have received nearly 3 inches of rain! This is almost Unheard of in this part of the world, where rain usually STOPS May 1 through August 15.

If this mess ever dries out we're gonna have another Stem Winder of a fire season!
