Airbag light and warning chime

I have purchased a 2003 S-type 3.0L that I love, due to the fact that it is as I would have ordered it from the factory, had I the opportunity. That is, it has a 5spd manual shift and a minimum of gadgets to break - no nav, no auto distance maintaining. Unfortunately, one of the gadgets I would like to have are operating airbags, but I do not know if they are operable. The record shows the car was involved in a minor fender bender, but there are no physical signs of deformation of frame, sheet metal, etc But there is no airbag indicator light showing during ignition check and no warning shows on the OBDII reader.
BUT when I get in and drive, about 1minute down the road I hear a pattern of 5 chimes that repeats 5 times. On a long drive, that 5 times 5 chimes repeats every 30 minutes. I am told that it pertains to the airbag system. Does it indicate that airbagfuses are blown? or that the indicator light is blown and needs replaced? Or that the airbag system is totally inoperable?

Dave,

Even though you have a highly modified S-Type, I think this question is best asked in S-Type forum.

Here's the SRS section from JTIS which explains the components and operation of the Air Bag system.

Attachment 215261

The RCM drives the SRS indicator on the instrument pack. If the warning lamp fails, a fault code is recorded and a warning tone is sounded. It could be this you are hearing.

A simple code reader won't report SRS error codes. It required Jaguar SDD or equivalent.

Thanks for the response. I guess now I need to get directions on how to pull the instrument module and replace the airbag indicator light.
