ive been looking to buy a 2000-2003 stype
and ive noticed they are extremely cheap.
around 5,000-8,000$
is this because its a unreliable car with alot of issues?
or is it because its extremely expencive to repair at mechanics?
do they require special oil filters?
or can i change it myself like my other cars?
any help is appreciated.

Is it worth it?

Usually new owners can't afford parts and service.
The oil change is the same, it's actually better, that you can do it!
Bad oil services can damage drain plug, Spark plug boss seals,Valve cover gaskets, and valve stem seals,
of the wrong oil, shorted oil,or too much oil!

Actually, the 2000-02 and the 03 are different models entirely. Although the exterior is the same, the engine and transmission have been reworked. On the 03, the transmission is a 6HP26 ZF 6 speed transmission. The 2000-2002 models have a 5 speed Ford transmission.
On the 2003 models, the V6 engine was reworked to put out 235HP versus 210 for the 02 and prior models. In 2003, the V8 was bumped to a 4.2 L versus a 4.0 liter for the earlier cars.
The climate control and the radio was reworked for the 2003 model as well as the instrument panel.
If you can, go for the later models, although there are more of the earlier cars to choose from...
The later cars seem to drive better and are usually more reliable.
