I was wondering what is the stock pipe diameter for the 2003 str exhaust

2.25"......I have 2.5" from the cats back....

Thanks, It sounds 10x better now that it is "broken" in, and will shoot a few drive by and full throttle passes.....

The stock STR exhaust diameter is 2 1/4". If you don't mind my 2 cents? The stock exhaust is adequate to 450 hp. I recently had MagnaFlow mufflers installed. They are affordable, stainless steel, and straight through. She is breathing better too. The tone is deep and mello at start, noticeable but very tolerable during cruise, with a beautiful authorative but not too noisy bark when under fire. Avoid removing the resonator= IMO too loud.

I plan on passing the 450 number......and the exhaust note inside the car w/o the resonator is very mild even when un full throttle.....but outside the car, I been told it sounds SO BEAST LIKE :D

Riski, Today I had the resonator removed placing an H-pipe in its place. Yes indeed she sounded "beastly. Unfortunately too loud in the cabin for my tastes. 15 years ago the sound would have went down as a victory, but I'm now likin to chill out to a quiet cabin listening to tunes and the occasional deep bark from the Magnaflows when I punch it.

Did you install the Mina Galleries pulley? Alone, did it make a noticeable difference in power and does the blower whine during part throttle (lower on the rpm scale) and wide open? I'm hedging on a pulley install but want to avoid a continuous whine from the blower. Also, did you toss the K&N because Doug of Mina suggested so? Last, what diameter exhaust tips did you install. I ordered 3" diameter with round end with slight slant. Should i have gone with a 3 1/2" diameter? I want to fill up the exhaust cut outs as much possible with out melting the valence.

I did the pulley, and let me say.....I will never do another one myself again! I built many of cars, and turned more wrenches than I can count.....I rather pull a motor out a GM F Body and install it than change a damn pulley off a stock STR.....PITA!!!! W/ the smaller pulley you have to grind down the snout of the blower once you get the pulley off.....I read that Jaguar used a retarded huhge press to put the pulley on and have yet to find anyone who has got the stock pulley off and be re-useable!

If I did it again, I would of paid someone to do it or wait til I get the supercharger ported and polished......

The K&N was the first thing I did......and it works fine.....


Blower noise.....if you dont like it dont change the pulley....

Yes, I used 2 Pullers from a local mustang performance shop, bent one.....and the one from advance is retarded......

I would love to see someone get it off with out messing up the stock pulley.....

Whatever Jaguar did, they made sure to make it a living hell to get it off.....and the snout will have to be ground down to fit a small pulley on....the 1.5 should clear fine though......

Like I said if I ever had to do it again....I would pull the blower off and send it in for the port/polish and pulley change or use a press to get it off instead of the a regular puller....

oh and if you are thinking about doing the lower crank pulley yourself......get a quote from a shop and let them do it.......ask budsang how his went from eurotoys ;)

Here's my "two-bob" on the subject; I used Riski's set-up (thank you Riski) however, I was not too keen on the resonator delete so left it in. I did however slide an X-pipe in ahead of the resonator just behind the cats - After the resonator its all 2.25"

For the tips, I went with the 3" double wall from Magnaflow which fills the factory cut-outs well.

Exhaust note is as described by bsfgross when stomping on the go button, but for motorway crusing it is very tame and non-intrusive.

I'm wondering how it would sound with Magnaflow muffler with X-True core which is nothing else than resonated x-pipe. I intend to buy it soon and will report back as soon as it is fitted.

Hey Riski you wouldnt happen to have any pics of how much you had to grind down the blower for the pulley would you?? I was thinking of going with the 3# and read you could damage the blower if you grind it wrong and was wondering just how much material are we talking.

Very minimal amount.....Just have to go slowly and even around, I would say 1/8th of an inch maybe lil more.....

Robgardinerblack, where did you get the x-pipe and what kind of note does she sing? What does the x-pipe do for power and sound?

I picked up both the Magnaflow mufflers and X-Pipe from good old E-bay; very resonable price however, I did cock-up the tips and originaly purchased 4" tips which looked plain wrong from every angle so I popped over to a local Sacramento muffler shop and picked up the 3" dual walls for $50.

The note is fantastic, deep and mellow under load yet light and non-intrusive crusing at 70MPH on the motorway - Try Riski's YouTube link; it is similar that but not as beasty.

I need to sack-up and drop the resonator at some point, but that's another project that will be done with a transmission fluid change.

The resonator is must to get rid of ;)

It puts several cars questioning the thought of trying to me with the R ;)
