2001 Jag Engine swap S tpye 4.0
Hello , I wish i had known about your group before i purchaced a my replacment used 4.0 engine, Last year our 4.0 Jag engine over heated and jumped time , cost to fix were over the top. So i purchaced a used 4.0 with updated timing tensioners and 6 month warrenty. Ibe installing it this weekend hopefully, but let me ask a question thats on my mind, If all goes well after the swap same engine will the car start or will a dealer have to link new engine to same computor ?? Thx for any help you can provide. Ive been a gear head for 35+ years but this type of electronic swap has got me a little nervous..
That makes since to me too. thx , I am of course nervous about what im getting ready to do with this engine swap , but was promiced same engine with close to the same vin # . We see in the nxt few weeks if i ask the forum for additional help .
You definitley do not need any programming after swap.
You vehicle has single PCM, combined ECM/TCM.
Only advice is pull as much out with it as you can. Much easier swap everything out of the car.
Do you have a lift or you doing it on the floor?

I made some progress this weekend , getting ready to drop motor ( I beam & chain fall) My old motor jumped time,Repair facility just had short block by the time they had tore enging down , then i found it was going to be way to expensive , engine got very hot jumped time , valve hit piston , to be it was time to stop the bleeding on shop labor. I then decided to find a different engine, This 1 has updated chain tensiors , and comes with 6 month warrenty.
Im putting on as many accessories as i can before i drop in and mate to auto transmission. From your experience with the heads on is room very tight to put trans to engine bolts in. I figure it will be easier to leave the engine motor mounts off to allow for some movement to bolt it all together. thx for the responce.

put motor mounts on. You don't want engine to fall on you. You can reach all the bell housing bolts from underneath. Before you bolt back on torque convertor, make sure it moves back and forward. If it does it is in correctly. Easier if you have a lift to work on
thx for the responce, i will take advise and go ahead and install mtr mount to block and on to the frame mounts . When you stated in your email , do you mean make sure the torque convertor moves forward and backwards a little bit, right ??I believe your saying make sure its not in a bind ?
