2002 S-Type... No spark plugs? Where are they?
 

I bought this S-type about 2 weeks ago now. Had it in the shop for transmission repairs for about 4-5 days.

Got it back two days ago. Today I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and cleaner the Mass Air Flow Sensor today.

I want to change the spark plugs but I could not see the. I have the 3.0L V6. Where are the plugs? What do you have to take off to get to them???

Hi Greg,

The spark plugs are under the ignition coils. Recommend you download the JTIS manual for specific instructions on procedures. Go to the General Tech Help forum and go the Christo's JTIS Download site message.

Thanks. I have the JTIS. I just was surprised I could not even see the spark plug wires running somewhere... Figured it was a magical engine!

It looks like a little work to get to them, but doable.

Are there any DANGERS or things easily broken to be aware of on theway in there? Do you suggest changing out anything else while I am elbow deep in there?

Are there any electronic manuals out there that have better (actual) photographs of the S-type for service? Which would you suggest?

the biggest thing to watch out for as far as breakage are the T coolant fitting on top of the engine, if it breaks use a vacuum T and hose clmaps to repair, no reason to but the hose assembly. Also the small hose that goes to the to radiator and thermostat pipa assembly. This small pipe barb breaks if you look at it wrong, I you have some mileage, and assuming you do since it came from the trns shop, just go buy that hose assembly from the dealer. Comes with all new hose assembly and thermostat, that way if you break it youll be ready, and if not(you wont if you already have the part) youll be replaceing a maintenance part now anyway

It has 78K on it... is that a lot for these cars? The 4-3 solenoid C spring broke on it...

The nearest Jag dealeris 80 miles away. Would a Ford dealer have the hose assembly? Autozone? [sm=americanasmiley.gif]

The hose BRUTAL is talking about is just brittle, mileage hardly seems to matter. The dealer is probably your only option, it is cheap though $25 if memory serves. You could also pick up the inlet manifold o-rings at the same time though I see them reused a lot with no problems. Whetever you do make sure you put the crash bracket back on the back of the inlet manifold. I'm attaching pictures of what happens without that bracket.

That loks like something I would not wnat to happen. Got a picture of what the "Crash Bracket" looks like so I do not forget to put it back?

I'm assuming those pics are AFTER a crash... ????

RT, the hose assembly Im talkign about is over a $100, the piece that breaks is the small plastic barb for the hose to the throttle body. The upper hose, pipe to thermostat, and thermostat assembly comes together. And whered you get those pics?

Thanks for jinxing me you evil SOB. I was doing an old rat 160k S-type today for the lower breather elbow and not only did I manage to break the nipple off of the upper radiator hose, when I breathed on the T hose nipple to the expansion tank that one snapped off too. To make matters worse I was working on the engine hot and I clamped off the hoses for the manifold/throttle body so that when the upper rad hose nipple broke off, the fuel rail was off and a stream of coolant blew into all the ports on the drivers side head. I had to take the sparkplugs back out that I just put in to remove the coolant from the cylinders. Just goes to show you this sh*t can happen to anyone.

I have a 2000 Jaguar S type v6. Do you have to completely uncover the right side of the engine to access the spark plugs? Thanks

yes you have to remove the intake and replace both upper and lower intake gaskets(these on this models are NOT reuseable, they leak real easy) and replace the lower breather hose while in there to. Its a 90* below the lower intake manifold that houses the injectors towrads the back of the engine
