2004 Jag S Type 4.2 ZF Transmission Fluid
Can I use Pentosin ATF 1 Transmission fluid in my car? I would appreciate the support on this issue.

Does it meet Shell M1375.4 spec (or LifeGuardFluid6)?
|
I've heard you can use Ford Mercon SP in a pinch or during a fluid/filter change.
|
Many, many threads on this.
Just do some searching for fluids and what else to change and where to buy. You need to do more the merely change the fluid. Are you aware of the sealing sleeve problem? . . . |
Pentosin ATF1 is ESSO LT71141 is G052 162 A2 for 5HP24/19
Lifeguard 6 is for the 6HP26. bob gauff |
Wolfshead Synthetic ATF
|
Doesn't meet the ZF / Shell spec, does it?

Use Wolfshead Synthetic ATF
Use Wolfshead and save a ton of money. Get a case for less than $70 dollars (delivered) and do two drain and fills. Car will run much better immediately. I did it to my 2003 XJR and it is very smooth and quiet. I syphoned two quarts at a time (with PELA 6000) and did it six times. I wanted a SLOW transfusion. I did it myself. Saved hundreds.

No problem using Wolfshead Synthetic ATF...it's Red not Yellow. (One way you can tell how well you flushed the system) I researched this to death a few years ago, and spoke to a chemist at the company. Their fluid is compatible with the ZF trans. |

so it uses different, incompatible, fluid. In case you're meaning a ZF 5HP24 then again it's different fluid. |
Wolfshead atf
Wolfshead is compatible with the ZF6HP24 and the ZF6HP26 transmissions. Yes the trannies are different but the Wolfshead is a Universal Synthetic. Go to their website they list their fluid as compatible with both transmissions. Wolfshead.com. It was my Jaguar certified mechanic that told me about the Wolfshead ATF. I am going to start using all of their products. Motor oil and tranny fluid exclusively. Very affordable. I ordered it from the Amalie Store. AmalieStore.com | official online store for Amalie and Wolf's Head OilAmalieStore.com. Good luck mate, Those of us that use it have already asked all the questions you are asking. I changed a case worth (12 quarts) of transmission fluid myself for the cost of the fluid only. Saved much money.

You probably have, but we may well ask them all again! :icon_beerchug: |
Worthy Discussion
A drain and fill at the Jaguar Dealer, I have been told, is $750 US. If you do it twice to eliminate shudder or other problems like I had, it would be $1500 US. I transfused 12 quarts of Wolfshead Synthetic ATF for less than $70 and did not get dirty or break a sweat. My car has 180,000 miles and it runs like a dream now. I wanted to share this experience so that others may save hundreds of dollars and take their Jags to a higher level of performance. Since my tranny has so many miles I chose a slow and inexpensive method of fluid replacement, two quarts a day for six days. 10 minutes to get out two quarts and replace. I would do it when I got home from work after the fluid was nice and hot. I heard these transmissions are bullet proof but this is my first Jaguar and I didn't want to take any chances. I purchased my car from a friend who happens to be a certified Jaguar mechanic and he has used Wolfshead for years. I hope this helps and your experiences are as positive as mine. Good Luck. Thanks Norri for the interjected comedy, lol. I have provided the necessary links for the members and moderators to make their own assessments. I am an Engineer and looked at the SpecSheet and track record.

From where were you siphoning old ATF and injecting fresh ATF without making a big mess?
|
Syphoning
I syphon the old ATF through the filler tube and replace using the same tube. No mess no fuss. Easy.
|
You are indeed fortunate. Our S-Types do not have ATF dipsticks or filler tubes....
