Default 2006 S-Type Gas Pedal

I recently bought a 2006 Jaguar S-Type and am trying to fix as much as I can, although it is already in pretty good shape. I've noticed that the gas pedal takes a bit more force than is necessary. The car was sitting for a couple of years before I got it and it drove beautifully for a week and then it started to show its flaws. If I wanted to make the gas pedal go down smoother what should I do?
(P.S., I just got the transmission fluid replaced and it shifts just fine so I don't think the gas pedal stiffness has to do with the engine)

The accelerator pedal assembly is actually a potentiometer that sends an electrical message to the vehicle PCM to adjust fuel flow and throttle opening. There is no direct linkage to the engine throttle as in older vehicles.

If the pedal is difficult to push down, see if there isn't something physically in the way such as a piece of the carpeting or a floor mat.
