Question '99 3.0 - Ecu changing, question

Hello all, new in this site...just bought my first Jaguar.

There was few problems with it already, all electrics are messed up...

So, now I found out that PCM is broken and might be front module too... I can't get on this car with OBD-tester.

But now to the question, There is controllers with small differ in those numbers... like mine has XR8A-12A650-QCA (PCM) and there is few that ends XR8A-12A650-NBA ... Can it work in my car, because inly last letters are wrong?

Can the difference be like if you have Manual or Automatic-trans??? So that engine ecu number is different too... program is different then...?

I was going to buy almoust all boxes from same car (with keys+fobs) so only thing is that if I buy box with different number, am I able to make my car to work....

They fail so rarely that yours is probably fine. Much more likely your OBD tool is not compatible (even though it probably claims it is).

Do not go changing modules in any hurry - you are likely to trigger an anti-theft lock-out and it will be VERY expensive if you do. (More than value of car.)

Try another OBD tool - and of course say which ones you are using.

Tell us more about what you think is wrong with the electrics if you want more help.

Actually those are broken, car was hit by thunderbolt... When I removeed PCM from the car, Cluster starts to work...but Anti-thieft is blinking so I quess that Front module is dead too + some other...

If the car got hit by lightning hard enough to fry the PCM I would expect nearly every other module to be fried too? Along with melted wires in places you can't see.

I am not sure you want to spend all the money it will take to find all of the problems? The car is not worth much if anything at this point.

If you bought an equivalent but working car, what would it cost? You probably want to spend a lot less than that to fix the broken car. If PCM is dead, and I see no reason yet to believe that, you'll need a lot of modules. Chances are still that it's not dead but your OBD tool isn't seeing it.

Some of the Mongoose clones don't work on the 1999-2002.5MY PCMs (along with other OBD tools). I think it's the unexpected (by the OBD tool) address of the PCM.

Yep, I noticed that when I was looking/asking these questions from OBD-dealers... But this should work that I ordered...let's see how it goes.

But anyway, I think that it's useless until I get "new" boxes...
I don't believe that there is any wiring problems, all is in the box.

okay, now I have Mongoose and tried it... Yep, it keeps looking for boxes and actually IDS finds all but gives communication error code for all boxes as I tought before. It tries to connect instrument panel and it keeps beeping but nothing else happens..

But now I need to know can I use boxes that are from same year/engine model but only difference is that mine is Manual but boxes are from Automatic... Can I calibrate box to understand that mine is manual.

Thanks for all advices
