Another "what car should I buy" thread

Ive recently started looking into a 2003 or so Jag S-Type. Originally I was fixated on a 2004 BMW 5 Series but then I decided that I didnt want to put everything I own into the car, and repairs may be a bit expensive for me to tolerate.. Since then Ive been looking at S types, X types, and a Mercedes Benz C240. I figured maybe repairs would be cheaper on Jag and Merc? Are Jag repairs viewed as Ford repairs?

Would the Stype be a good idea seeing as its discontinued? Im not really sure how that affects the appeal of a car.

The Ultimate aspiration is a Tesla Roadster (in 5 years or so).. hence my looking to spend half as much on a car as I was originally planning on.

I can tell you that Jaguar repairs are not Ford repairs and they are not cheap! The hope is that you don't need many repairs but you never know. All you need to do is find a good mechanic in your area that is familliar with these cars and the repairs will be at least half and usually less then what Jaguar charges. There are plenty out there.

Depends on what suites you. Do you want comfort and riding quality, because if you do, then the S-type honestly is lacking in that area? The S-type also looks awesome to some, but to others it looks a little classic and old. I would test drive the cars you'd like to have, and see which one gives you the best package of things you'd like. For the S-type make sure to look for wheel knocking, but that's a problem that was fixed with the 03+ model. I think that if you make sure to get the 03+, the only think you'd have to deal with is the crappy plastic interior that Ford makes!
