Which brand of aftermarket coolant recovery tank?
 

I've been doing some research & I see there are two brands of coolant recovery tanks. I've read reviews online but would like to hear from JFs members having real world experience.

What are your experiences with either the REIN or URO tanks?

URO does not enjoy a very good reputation in some circles. I replaced my recovery tank with a Meyle part; this brand was also recommended by my independent import auto repair shop.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like the Meyle is about 30% higher in price but if the quality is good then its a no-brainer.

I am surprised Jaguar / Ford produced a coolant tank w/such low quality.

Since first draining the coolant after buying the car I've used Comma G30 premixed coolant in the Jaguar specification. It's reasonably priced and readily available online. It comes in 1, 2 and 5 litre sizes, so it's handy to keep a 2 litre bottle in the boot (trunk) for top ups.

Your comment reminds me of the Mercedes W124 (400E/500E) chassis tanks, which had brass neck fitted into a plastic tank. Expensive tanks which would invariably blow at the seam joining the brss neck to the tank body, usually when you were at speed, on the freeway with lots of traffic and no exit ramp or shoulder nearby to pull over on to... Ask me how I know, lol.

Last I worked with Ford was in 2007 or so. Back then the truck group were the die hards about things like keeping water pump bearings and impellers metal, heavy, and a bit overkill. The car platforms though... it was hit and miss. The older guys who had been there were reluctant to change but the new engineers were very open. Well.... anybody replace a ford / jaguar V6 water pump lately?

I am still in the OEM realm and some things under the sun don't change.
