Default Buying 2006 vdp s-type..questions

Hello everyone. New to this forum and to Jaguars in general. I currently own a 2001 s-type 3.0 with 60k miles. I'm in the works of trading it in for a 2006 s-type vdp with 44k miles. Has anyone had problems with the 2006? Anything I should have my mechanic look at specifically before I do the deal? And could I still possibly get extended warranty? Thank you

As you probably know, the new S-Type was significantly improved vs. your older S-Type. Spend some time reading the sticky threads at the top of the S-Type section to better acquaint yourself with the various improvements. Time well spent....

Thanks for your help. I tried reading through some but I couldn't find much on the 2006 s-type vdp. But I will continue looking. I'm going to trade my current one with cash and walk off the lot with the 2006...seems like the right move but I'm having my mechanic take a look to make sure nothing major is wrong with the 2006

If you are having someone competent look the vehicle over prior to purchase, have them look around the gearbox pan for signs of any fluid leaks or seepage as well as for any signs of suspension component failure or wear.

I own a 2006 with a V6 and over 100k miles. I've had a few issues that are not unique to a 2006 or later S-Type. From everything I can tell, they are indeed improved over the early cars in many ways with no new issues that the early cars don't have.

As someone with a 2006 who has not had a perfect experience, I would take a 2006 over an earlier model without hesitation. I think more important is to ensure the car has been properly serviced, that there hasn't been any shoddy accident repair, etc.

Good luck!

There were very few VDP made (I've never seen one in person) but don't beleive that this model was any better/worse in reliability. The 2002.5 - 2008 models remained pretty much unchanged over the years other than minor tweaks. There was a cosmetic face lift in 2005.

Broaden your search with this in mind.
