Buying Parts from Amazon/ebay

is anybody else doing this with any luck? Can you get good parts from these places? I see some very inexpensive coils and brakes

Be very very careful what you buy. Yes you can get some awesome deals, but you can get screwed just as hard. It's hard to tell the quality of the parts on Ebay and sometimes Amazon as the descriptions sometimes lack in details. And nobody ever lies? Yeah right. So if the old adage, you get what you pay for makes any sense ? Be careful. Rock Auto.com is a good source, and they usually have parts from several different "major" manufactures. So you can kinda pick the quality that fits your budget. Hope it helps.

I do it all the time with good results. Stick to quality name brands, though. Those bargain no-name coils on eBay aren't worth the gamble.

Rockauto.com has a very good parts finder. Enter make, model, and so on and you will see listings for several different brands. I'll then search eBay or Amazon with the number from Motorcraft (or other quality brand) for comparison. Factor in shipping costs and speed, and then take your pick.

You CAN find some good deals on EBay and Amazon, but it really depends on what you're looking for. Some are obvious replicas (wheel caps, emblems) and of less than OEM quality. Others are used, and you must be diligent about reading the description carefully, especially concerning any warranty or return policy.

Also, the brand name DOES matter. Of course you'd want Jaguar-branded parts, but don't forget that up to 20% of S-Type part numbers carry a Ford cross reference, so the listing may only carry that #. In addition, Dorman makes a lot of replacement Ford parts (which I have installed on my 20 year old F-150 with good results), so that's yet another part cross reference.

When in doubt, there's always vendors here like SNG Barratt, Coventry West and Jagbits.com (even Craigslist) that will source true Jaguar parts.

thank you...I was gonna buy some coils but I dont think I'm gonna do it. I'm just gonna get them from Napa.

I did see some ACDelco Lower Control Arms that I may pick up though.

I do OK with ebay sellers, there are plenty of motor factors who sell there. Usually they have 6 figure positive feedback and high 90%. I still send them a message asking them to confirm if the part will fit quoting my cars VIN number. That is worthwhile and only a couple have confirmed their parts are not for my VIN. But they did know.
But be your own judge and if in doubt then don't. Or make sure they had a good returns policy incase you need to return an item.
I only use UK sellers and I avoid other countries who are known to produce poor quality copies.

I bought plugs and coils on Amazon. Plugs were nowhere near spec (called Bosch to check), coils I never even opened as the company had no history or track record that could be found anywhere. Buy from a Reputable dealer! Our labour is worth more than the parts. Good thing about Amazon is the return policy!

No name parts on a Jag are a no deal. Anything electrical, even if off by only .1 volt can cause grief like ghost codes. I'd image that anything ignition related would need the highest quality parts available.
