car cruises with out cruise control on and foot offgas
Cruising on the straight and level at 45mph, lift foot from gas and car continues at 45 mph for a quarter or a third of a mile. For sure cruise control is off, will start slowing down but it is a litle bit dis-concerning

Is this the only symptom you are experiencing? Are the steering wheel audio controls working properly? I ask because my cruise control functions were going south, then audio controls went in reverse (2002 model w/4.0 engine).
Root cause: Clockspring. Only code thrown was was an "a" code, which was for the audio head unit not communicating with the remote (steering wheel) controls.

Radio controls work on up and down volume, the voice button is questionable as I only tried it once and gave up. I do have a p1183 code I need to address as well and air bag 36 code to go alone with my p0420.
Trying to work them one at a time with my battery drain, just waiting for warm day for that and the air bag. Catalytic converter is on the way and my friend who is a retired BMW mechanic will but it on. Do have a new battery, coils and 02 oxygen sensors, runs very well with good gas mileage
Not my first Jag, but looking back that was almost 50 years ago. Most loved was a 70 Rover 3500s and a 69 rover 2000tc. Hoping that the S-type would have some Roverish characteristics.

Do you have a scanner? Duplicate the fault on an empty road and watch the throttle position value. Compare this to the value when the engine is at idle.
I'm having a brain fart at the moment, trying to remember if this is the position of the pedal or the throttle plate. I can look into that some more, or perhaps somebody can chime in. But my hunch is the engine is responding normally to what it thinks is a valid command for increased RPM.
