Cat acting weird
2005 Jaguar s type 4.2 133K miles
Situation:
will not start. Disconnect battery it starts!
I parked the car for a week while waiting on my cooling fan to replace it. Cooling fan just decided to stop working all of a sudden!
Part arrived installed.........fan works great.........misfires......one coil went bad while sitting in the back yard......great......replaced coil.........no misfires now the camshaft position sensor band A acting up........Charged the battery since the week of sitting might have drained it......now no codes but still does the same thing with not starting or starting when it wants!!
Now here is the kicker when the car went into the back yard for the fan issues the car ran fine....no codes no starting issues!
Been monitoring temps: she runs between 199 and 210.....is this normal? outside them today was 78!....
What gives?.....now I will vent: I have owned quiet a few cars but none was a bigger POS than this Jag.......I mean when does it stop? we have Jap cars in the family with twice the mileage of the Jag and 1/100th of the issues.......ah and 6 years older......yet they have the same ac compressor not three like the jag, same f-ing suspension bushing not like the Jag........reliability is almost null with this car........literaly yesterday went to the store ......come out it will not start.....go to the trunk (already had my 10mm with me) remove P terminal for 10 minutes now it starts......REALLY??......This car is supposed to go to my son and I am supposed to drive it from Phoenix to Ft Benning ......I don't think it will make it.....or I will be in the trunk a lot!.......it seems like you have to have a box of spare parts in the trunk for just in case!!
Now I fell better! Thank you for bearing with me! Now back to this issue of starting anybody out there have had the same thing happen...... or any input even sarcastic at this point is welcome........I think I am just Jaguared out!!

We're not seeing cars like this, but someone has to have a bad one and sorry to say it seems to be you. Maybe mice ate wires when car was in back yard. A bad battery may be another thing but we also never heard of 3 compressors so you really ARE way out of luck.
No mice, live in the middle of the city! wish it was, cause I can remedy that!
Battery is new, a couple of months old to be more exact!
I am thinking that something may be wrong with the ECU! I will thinker with it this week and if I make no progress off to the dealer with it!
I've owned many vehicles during my 44+ years of driving. We've had our S-Type for a little more than five years and our XK8 for just over two years. What I've learned is that these Jaguars give me far less trouble as long as they are driven regularly. Ours never sit for more than a couple of days at a time (unless we are snowed in as we are right now)....
On the other hand, my 1999 Dodge Ram pickup can sit for two or three weeks yet still fires right up and performs just fine. But it is a much less complex vehicle than any Jaguar....

I own a Volvo for reliability... I own the Jag for the shear delight in finding new faults and problems, researching the solution and stripping the thing apart and fixing it! My only concern at the moment is that mine is running perfectly... But here's hoping... Shouldn't be a long wait!
Today it started right up in the morning. Arrived at meeting, 30 minutes later when I came out it acted like it didn't want to start...had to crank it 3 times and 4 time it barely started!
Today misfire cyl 2....replaced coil(since I now carry spare parts and tools in my car to include obdII reader)....good to go! No codes as of now.
Oil stopped leaking! Weird I have not touched anything since I am waiting on gaskets!
Now I have a clanking coming from front right, suspension related...that I need to investigate!
Forgot to add that tonight the dash light flickered a few times!

Honestly Lt sounds like your battery is bad. You may have purchased a bad one or the incorrect battery. The clanking noise I have also. Took my car to midas last week to have the front breaks done. The suspension on this car is SHOT! All bushings front and back are shredded! All parts like control arms have to be replaced you cannot replace just the bushings. I'm looking at buying another car now because to replace all the parts that are worn will cost more then the value of the car. I will say this I am curious how the car will ride with a good suspension because I thought she rode great now!
I've criticized this car from one end to another but it dawned on me today I have never owned (aside from my 67 Vette) a car more then 5 years old. I will say my wife's 07 Civic (older then 5 years) has 170000 miles on it and not one single issue with the car (aside from a TSB problem). My Jag has 118000 on it and has been nothing but problematic. I won't take it on long trips because I'm scared of getting stranded. If I had done my homework before my purchase I would not have bought my car.
What I find curious are the people that get butt hurt because I criticize this car. Yet any reliability reports out there show Jaguar to be at the bottom of the list in reliability.
The S-Type is what it is, a gorgeous, comfortable, powerful, gas thirsty, un-reliable car. YET, I have to admit I have been looking at S-type R's! Does that make me masochistic? LMAO!

Hello Kitten Crazy! you will need a battery Group Size (BCI): 49. Preferably with 850 cold cranking amps or more.
