Default Wife hit a deer

My wife hit a deer and it knocked off the passenger mirror just hoping someone has re-installed a mirror before and can give me an idea where to start. 2002 S type R

Thanks

From looking at JTIS is seems quite straightforward.

1. Remove the door card
2. Disconnect the mirror's electrical connector
3. Remove the trim panel on the door that covers the back of the mirror
4. Remove the nut covers
5. Remove the wiring harness grommet
6. Support the mirror from outside (have the wife hold it)
7. Unscrew the nuts and remove the mirror.

That's helpful I guess I will have to remove the door panel not easy I'm sure. I don't need to take the mirror off it is off it is tape on for now. Is there a good place to buy the parts I will be needing.

What you will probably find is that the mirror assembly is broken and part of it is still attached to the car as it is held on by 3 bolts which will have held up a lot longer than the plastic mirror enclosure. So you're still going to want to remove what's left of the mirror from the side of the car.

As to a source for parts, not a clue in the US I'm afraid.

Rocky,

Got off lightly there. The last deer hit report I saw on the forum took out the entire LH front quarter of an XK8!

As Vehlin has posted, door mirror removal is straightforward. However, there's several options of mirror which complicates sourcing a replacement:

1. Memory / non memory
2. Powerfold
3. Flat / convex mirror glass
4. Electrochromatic

Colour is the least of the problems - the plastic back cover pops off and is easily refinished in the required colour.

Thanks Vehlin that link helps that door panel looked impossible. I have yet to find parts but I can find the hole mirror and like GGG said the back part that is the colour can come off and be painted.

Thanks GGG

There is a dent in the door but yeah I was surprised there was more damage. The next day we had to travel the same road and there wasn't a deer there. He must have lived and ran off.

Too bad - in Tennessee the State is begging hunters to harvest deer due to overpopulation and all the associated problems for both the deer and humans (like your wife). I agree with Graham that she got off easy because a deer can total a vehicle. And if you know how to cook them, they make fine eating!

I have yet to find parts...
If the Park City where you live is in Utah, try Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com, a Jaguar dealer in Las Vegas that sells Jaguar parts at discount prices. You may need to call them to find the specific parts you need. If the Park City where you live is in the East, try JAGUAR Parts and Accessories | JaguarMerriamParts.com®, a Jaguar dealer in Kansas that also discounts parts.

The diagrams in the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), which you can find in the X308 'HOW TO' quick links on the main page of the X308 forum, may be helpful in figuring out exactly what parts you need, and whether they are available separately from Jaguar. If you discover they aren't, it may be more economical to purchase a salvaged mirror off of eBay or from a local salvage yard.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks Don

I found a mirror the complete thing and that will make it easier I am waiting to see if it is a match. I will check out the other link you posted.

Thanks

Rocky
