Default Cleaning supercharger and heat exchangers from oil residue

Anyone do this yet? I have to pull my blower for a leaky line so I figure ill clean the oil out. Its got 117,000 miles on it.

Any cautions on degreasing it? Any coating to worry about? Should I change the oil (in the blower?) do a backyard port on the blower? Change the pulley?

Whatcha all think?

Which MY car do you have?

Soaking the SC charge coolers in a heavy duty soft carbon remover for 24 hours or so and then use carb cleaner to spray through the matrices should do the trick.

That's what I did on my 2005 Eaton.

Change the oil while it's out is an easy task so do it.

At 117,000 miles might be worth changing the rear bearings which is easy with the SC removed.

Many have said going with the smallest pulley over spins the Eaton. I went with the samller and love the mid range punch that it gives.

Porting the later model is just not worth it. Earlier model probably may be worth it.

Installing an oil catch can is very much worth it.

If the rotors look good don't touch them.

Wow that's some welcome to ownership of a STR. You've been warned.

Lol! Ya but the car was basically given to me so for the price of shipping it ($900) and the cost of parts ($ 500) I dont mind doing the work! The car is pretty clean too! Just ordered a pulley for it too!

I have another car with a pair of liquid intercoolers which far far far easier to remove but the twin turbos are even worse than this car's supercharger! On that one I periodically remove them WO disconnecting the cooling hoses and use paint thinner to washer them out. Turbos always leak a little oil into the charge so it's a good idea.

I wonder if you even need to remove the intercoolers for this repair. If you want to clean them sure.

no you dont need to remove the intercoolers but im right there at that point and ive been known to go a little extra on my stuff if it results in more power or longer life.

Do the intake gaskets above and below the fuel injectors leak on these cars? I obviously change those out too

I was BIG into Ford Lightnings which has a very similar SC setup. Cleaning IC I'd use engine degreaser and get an oil catch can. When you pull the blower inspect to see if there is any scoring on the flutes. If so have the bearings serviced as they are close to their end.

I believe I have a spare moroso catch can that I didnt use on my hellcat. Thatll work nice. But where to mount it? That engine bay is packed!

Blower looks amazingly good! No scratches on rotors!! Just a tiny spot on one end where the coating flaked

Please update where you locate it because I agree, there's not room for very much in the engine compartment.
Up front where the horns are located there's some space though ...

Still trying to find a way to connect to the factory plastic line without cutting it. Tried to find quick disconnect fittings to the pcv valve and the plastic line but not having any luck

have a look here , i used an alloy hose tail from a spare D1 Spec catch can i had .
it fits perfectly .
i know you can buy the fittings . also in brass .
they are 13mm or 1/2'' both ends
i used a mishimoto baffled catch can .
its small , easy to mount , easy service . the jar just screws off the bottom . o-ring sealed .
and has a 500micron filter to stop further mist passing through .
mine is mounted to the strut brace .
