From what I have heard, Meyle is a pretty well regarded aftermarket supplier of the tanks, but Uro is to be avoided as being of inferior quality. This is from internet posts observed and discussions with the owner of the shop that works on my S-type and Mercedes.

I just had a Meyle tank installed in my car as the sensor in the old tank had failed.

Makes a nice spout for transferring the coolant remaining in your cracked tank into the new one after install. After you install the new tank....make sure you tug on the lower hose quck-connect and wiggle at it to make sure it is properly seated. You won't make it out of the neighborhood without a bunch of steaming stink if you screw that one up so you should be good-to-go ar far as the KY trip.

Dealer charged me $108 for the 3.0L version. Ask for a discount if yours is higher. (He SURELY won't sell it for less if you fork over whatever he's asking)
Thanks for the tip about the clip!

Get in there with a magnet and strong flashlight and look around. If you have your belly pan fastened to the bottom of the car - remove it and you'll probably find it settled there...

Heed the warnings above!! We have had a forum member burn up his engine because the clip was not properly installed!
When it blows you lose so much coolant so fast you don't have any time to shut it down before it's all over.

I pull and tug on that hose until I am positive it's clicked and holding properly.
No the clip is NOT serviced separately and several people have fought this as they lost the clip too.

So regarding replacement tanks, are there any better or worse ones out there or just the same injectoplastic from China? The OEM part already demonstrated its weakness so no benefit form going that route.

I see them from $32 to $59ish online.

The Meyle tank mentioned in my earlier post lasted 4 years and 34K miles... I am not sure if that is good or bad from re-reading this thread,

Maybe a tad better than my Amazon cheapie. I'm going to pack the tube with epoxy to make it unmoveble, likely useless but what the hey..

Go with OEM. They don't last forever. You get a few years at best. Chinese crap is junk right out of the box

The R type tank is even more expensive, I think I paid $135.00 a year ago, OEM part.
