Correct rear brake pads for 2006 S-Type R ?

I have been searching over the weekend for replacement rear pads for my recently acquired 2006 '56' S-Type R.

It is a minefield with all sorts of contradictory information.

My car has the 'Teves' (ATE) calipers rather than the earlier Brembos.

As such it should have 326mm vented rear discs, this appears to be the case.

There are two types of brake pad listed which appear to have the same mounting shape but one has a larger surface area ?(neither of them are for the Brembo caliper !)

Wondered if anyone has any practical experience of which one is correct for my car.

Really looking for part numbers from pad suppliers so that I can cross reference them ?

Some of the XF models apparently use the same rear caliper but with a 300mm disc, wondered whether this could be the difference in the pads (ie. bigger friction area for the 326mm discs) ?

Another thought occurred to me, could it be that the 'larger' pads listed to fit the ATE calipers are for the XFR ?

I think this has 380mm rear discs so would need a larger surface area on the pads ?

Yours is a rare one for sure. Not much info on the STR brakes after the factory stopped using the Brembo setup in 2005.

Do you have the separate emergency brake caliper too or is that also different? The JTIS stopped at 2004 so none of the later changes are shown in it. You unfortunately have one of those changes.

S-Type-2006-Technical-Guide.pdf https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...uestion-35627/ Scroll down for the technical guide in JagV8 post

Sizes are in this technical guide. I used Centric pads from Rock Auto last time I changed my brakes. Have lasted much much longer than Jag pads. Don't make dust as bad either.

Don't take Rock Autos online listing seriously, most including them have mistakes for the 06-08 models. Give them a call and provide your VIN number to be sure.

Thanks - I forgot about that!

Thank you for your help.

The 2006 bulletin is very useful.

Luckily I had a 4.2 XKR and 5.0 XKR at work today so I could do a comparison.

The 4.2 (2009) has the same rear brake setup as my STR (326mm vented rear discs, ATE calipers) and used the 'smaller' of the two pads.

The 5.0 has bigger rear discs (didn't bother measuring the size) but use the larger pad to cope with the increased surface area of the disc.

The EBC part numbers for the correct pads are:

DP41749R Yellow stuff
DP31749C Redstuff
Hope this will help someone else with the same question.
