Default Dash light dimmer rheostat

I have a simple question I hope. On my 2001 S type 4.0 the dimmer rheostat for the dash lights will not vary the brightness beyond a dull glow that can basically only be seen in the garage. It should be simple to change but I can’t find anything in the manuals about how to get it out of the dash. I suspect it just pops out but before I do any damage does anyone have some ideas or tips about this? Thanks

Yep, it just pops out. There's a little clip at each end that grips the edge of the opening. See the third picture at this eBay listing (item # 252846733591) to see one of the clips:

Pry gently with a small screwdriver and the dimmer switch will come loose from the dash.

I'd suggest tying a piece of string to the wire harness to keep it from falling back inside the dash when disconnected.
