That’s bad; must have felt like an asthmatic pig driving down the road.

How did that vehicle ever run? Can you imagine what the oil looked like as well...

The oil may have been changed on schedule. As (nearly) was the filter. Oil's 10K miles and air filter 40K - eek!
(I reckon the air filter should at least be checked every 10K but hey.)

It looks like diesel PM (particulate matter - crudely, soot).

Alrighty then - I know what I'm doing first thing tomorrow morning! I'm going to pull my air filter and have a looksee. I'm a bit nervous to have a look...bought the Jag this past December and they did a full service, but who knows...now I just have to find it!

Cheers!

When I picked up my silver 03 STR last month the filter was very dirty too. I replaced it immediately with a K&N filter. Last week one of my patients liked mine so much he bought an 03 w/55k. Before he picked it up I advized him to order a K&N filter. He showed up to my office with his STR all proud and asked if I can show him where the filter was and help drop in the K&N filter...Woah! Not as nasty as yours but it was really clogged. It frequently happens but still boggles the mind how anyone can abuse these cars?

This might have been the actual car that K&N used to substantiate their 'more horsepower' claims.

Take that filter into the dealership that did the service, and slap the manager in the face with that nasty *** filter. Drop it on his desk, and walk out.
