Hello. I am new to Jaguar. I found a 02' SType 3.0. Engine rattling. Possible swap. Does anyone know if I can swap an engine from a 1998 Buick LeSabre Limited 3800 Series II V6 into it? It was one of GM's common but versatile engines I've seen go into even Camaro's and Firebirds. Please help. Need advice on rattle if can't swap from my Buick. Tranny is a 4650-T. Would like to know if can swap as well.

Unviable to swap for anything but same engine+trans. Diagnose what's actually wrong - may be very cheap fix.

 

That's one of the more unusual engine swap ideas I've seen.

It ued to be that swapping engine was a matter of just cutting and welding plus a few wires for the ignition. Almost anybody could do it in their back shed. Today's computer controlled cars make the electronic side of things virtually impossible for a home mechanic. Think of cutting Windows based and Apple based laptops in half and expecting to successfully mix and match with only a bit of superglue.

Your best bet is to fix the engine you have.

 

My 3.0L XJ had a rattle when I got it sounded as though it was timing chains,
Turned out to be the PCV valve?
