Question Need to get an alignment

First off, I would like to say that this forum has been amazing in discovering information about my jaguar and has saved me a lot of money in getting my s-type up to shape, So I would like to say thank you! However, the search bar has finally failed me in finding a answer to my question, so now i get to be part of the community

When i first bought my jag about 3 months ago I was aware that it needed basically a tune up +1, such as battery, a couple bulbs, tires, etc. Anyways i finally got new tires like 3 weeks ago and wanted to put off getting an alignment, however im getting a lot of outside wear on my tires and I NEED an alignment before I have to but a second pair of tires So i called up the place that i always get an alignment and they told me only the dealer does jag alignments. So i called up the nearest dealer and set up an appointment however, they want $225 for a 4 wheel alignment and i have never paid over $100. So i was wondering if its true that I can only go to a dealer and what I should expect as far as costs go from someone else.

Thanks! From everything ive read I know that you guys have all the answers lol

Sounds to me like another shop that doesn't want to work on a Jag. Here, you can get a 4wheel for 50-75 bucks. I'd do some asking around in your area. And just cause they have a machine doesn't always mean they know how to use it. There are quite a few around here but only two I use.

If you are getting tire scrub after only 3 weeks of driving - you need an alignment ASAP. And perhaps your suspension components checked for wear while they are at it.

I had an alignment at my local dealer while it was in for something else. It was about $100-$120 if I remember right. I don't recall having that startled - deer in the headlights look when I got the bill anyway. $225 is a tad high. Keep shoppin.

I just got an alignment done today on my 2000 Stype at a local Jaguar dealership. I called around and received these quotes:

Jaguar specialty shop: $125 (few/mixed reviews)
Jaguar dealership: $169 (mixed reviews)
European imports service shop: $225 (favorable reviews)
Independent shop for European automobiles: $325 (few but favorable reviews)

I don't typically have my vehicles aligned at dealerships, but I decided to go with the Jaguar dealership in this case as I remember reading a post by Brutal on this form that the original alignment specs for the 2000 - 2002 (?) stype were wrong, so I thought the probability was higher that the dealership would have the correct specs over the other shops I called. The overall experience was good and the slight vibration I was feeling at highway speeds is now gone. Good luck.

We just had Joyces Jag aligned a month and a half ago at Scott Jaguar, they are known to be just a wee bit high on service prices, $125.00 out the door.

As Brutal kinda pointed out (in another post), the specs that are preset into the machines and wrong and Jaguar dealers have the correct specs.
