Default Engine will not turn over any ideas?

Hi everyone
My 2005 S Type R will not turn over
It has a new battery in and was running fine I went to the grocery store and when I came out I put the key in and turn it and all dash lights work radio windows etc. When I turn it to start I hear a solenoid click but the engine does not crank.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it was raining pretty hard here today when this happened.
any ideas would be great.

Rachel

Put headlights on, measure battery voltage. Expect more than 12.5V

OK I checked the battery and it is good. I was mistaken when I said earlier that I hear the solenoid click The solenoid is making no sound. It is the relay that is making the click sound when I have someone turn the key and listen to it at the fuse box under the hood.I hear a distinct click sound coming from the relay. But nothing else happens.
I love this car but the problems with it are SOO frustrating.

Follow Electrical Guide and/or JTIS troubleshooting (free download). There are only a few places where power should be (such that the starter energises) but presumably isn't.

I gave up and had it towed to a shop. He found that a bolt had come loose in the shift linkage and the car could not tell that it was in park.

The shift linkage bolts are items to be inspected for tightness at every oil change.

Yep, that procedure is indeed mandatory. 30 seconds using an 8mm box wrench to snug up those two ZF cable bolts is time well spent....

Check 'em as you do each oil change. You're under there anyway

(Except the diesel, I gather.)

Glad to hear the fix was easy but sorry you had to go to the shop.
Would have been a free fix if you found it yourself.
