Hello everyone! I bought a 2001 S-Type a little over a year ago. It's in decent shape, needs some TLC. It seemed like a good deal at the time so I couldn't pass it up. It's been out of commission for a while now (wouldn't pass smog). I am now able to put some time into the vehicle. Went to start it and it's not getting fuel to the filter. I checked the 4-pin connector going to the pump and am a little confused. Should the voltages be the same with key on and off? I saw ~11.5V at pins 2 and 3, 0.16-0.17V at pin 1. Also, is there a valve on the pump unit itself that can become stuck closed after sitting for awhile? I have read some other threads suggesting the fuel pump most likely needs replacing after sitting for so long (about a year). Wondering should I just order a new pump or are there other things I should check first? I really look forward to talking with you guys. I've read alot of posts here and really appreciate how helpful everyone is. Thanks in advance! Jim |
Welcome to the forum Sprayall,
I've copied this question from your Intro thread. Members here with the same model will be able to help. Graham |
Grab the free workshop manual which I expect tells you about how the pump is driven etc.

First things first!
Do you have the V8? Do you know about the timing chain tensioners? . . . |
^+1. While you're at it, change out the water pump (it'll be a newer revision as well). Coolant recovery tank and lead in hose are also a weak spot.
There are many threads here about "new" ownership.....if you can get your hands on previous maintenance records, they will keep you from chasing ghosts. Then, enjoy the ride! |

Thanks guys. V6 3.0. No, I have not read about the timing chain tensioners. I will check that out and start taking note of all the common issues that many of you have had. Absolutely NO maintenance records. Regarding the workshop manual, here is the cover of the one I am working from. Obtaining JTIS as I write this. Any other exciting reads I should know about? |
3.0 has no issues with tensioners - be happy!
This site has that and far more all free to download - go browsing :) |

Correct, the V6 S-Types are pretty bullet-proof so you should be good to go. Auto or manual? As far as I know the 3.0 V6 is the last Jaguar with a manual transmission, although they are somewhat rare. ================================================ Jaguar - it's not an automobile, it's a Motorcar Current: '08 S-Type 4.2 "Satin Edition" (250.06 hp / 259.67 torque) Past: '05 X-Type 3.0/auto Jaguar Racing Green |

Yep you are good to go. The V-6 is pretty darn solid.

Good to hear about the TCT's. It is auto transmission, reverse is not working. But, that is something to work on later. I was able to install the JTIS. Looking through that now for a plan of attack, hopefully this weekend.
Thanks |
Shifter cable may have stretched. May adjust but may need new.
Or low on trans fluid. Not easy to check and must be done correctly with engine on etc. |
Am about to order my clips (missing a ton as well). Does anyone know which clip I need to hold in the rear side panels (like where the courtesy lamp comes on, on either side of the spare tire?) Looks massive (the head) and it keeps the panels in place. Thanks in advance.

Speedmaster: You would be better off posting a new thread in the correct forum, as opposed to tacking your inquiry on the end of an unrelated, five year old thread in what appears to be the wrong forum...
