sounds like a dry ball joint . i can only guess which one .
you can use a pipe or screw driver or long socket extension as a stethoscope put one against your ear and the other end against any of the ball joints including the sway bar ones and upper and lower outers , and have some one rock the car for you whilst you listen .

There were several 'issues' with the X200 front ball joints. Mostly the lower joint seizing and unscrewing the nut on the bottom. When this happened I tried to double-nut the joint but it unscrewed AGAIN!!!!! Several more came in over the years for repair and I just replaced them!!!!
Jaguar only sold the VERTICAL LINK as an assy with the lower ball joint but there are replacements that are available to press fit.
Check the lower joints carefully and the upper ones also as stated by others!!
They are not fitted as a taper like most joints, just a locating 'dish'.
