heated seat addition?

My jag came from the southern US and so doesn't have bun warmers, but after this last cold snap I'd sure like em. There's a wrecker here that has an s-type with the switches and such I could get cheap. I notice that there's unconnected connector hanging below at the passenger seat (haven't checked the driver's) in my Jag, so it it fair to assume that all seats have the heaters built in but some don't have the circuits installed? Or will I have to dismantle the seats to install elements? Did they actually make two kinds of seats?

Search the archives. I'm sure there was an extended post about converting a car to heated seat.

I don't know if I would use the used heating elements but there are companies out here that make aftermarket heated seat kits. It would be great to be able to use the seat switch from the wrecker.

I did check the archives and only found a couple of posts...

Going through the search again I see this question has come up several times, without any confirmation other than the wiring harness exists even without the option, so installing the switches is fairly simple. The question does not seem to have been resolved as to whether all these seats have heaters installed and only needs the switches etc to make it all work. I will research further and post here a definitive result so that in the future people will know if it's an easy or a big job.

I successfully installed heated seats in my 2000 S Type. Yes, the seating harness does have the connector to hook up to the heated seat module. Also, behind the radio you will find the harness containing the two connectors for each heated seat switch.

You will need to get the following:

Heated seats (you need to find a set of heated seats from a car that has heated seat switches) - if a car wasn't ordered w/ the heated seats option "non-heated" seats were installed. (so if you connect the heated seat switches to non-heated seats nothing will happen)

Heated seat switches and the bezel off the dash below the radio.

Unbolt the old seats and harness

Install the new heated seats and hook up the harness, including the connector to the heated seat box. (sorry, it's been about 2 years since I did this)

Remove radio to get to the heated seat harness (zip tied to radio harness) - feed down and remove blank bezel and connect each heated seat switch and install bezel and radio.

No need to install any fuses/relays - circuit is already powered.

Enjoy your factory heated seats!

(I think I posted on my heated seat install before)

Hope the above helps....

All seats were NOT installed with heaters. The way you can tell if a seat is heated or not is via the heated seat module underneath the seat.

Here is what it looks like:

Jaguar s Type Heated Seat Module 2R83 14C724 AA 2000 2001 2002 | eBay

The best way to install heated seats in a non-heated seat vehicle is to source a set of heated seats and seat switches... install is very simple. (check my other post in this thread)

Hope this helps - Anthony

These vehicles are rare up here and finding good used seats too much expense and a hassle. The parts car seats have been exposed to rain. I suppose I could install an ebay kit in the seats while using the stock switches and wiring.
