How Do You Remove the Floor Console & Radio?

Two questions:

1) I need to replace the front cup holder and ash tray on my 2000 S-Type. I have the replacment parts so now I just need remove the floor console. I just don't want to start prying it off with a screwdriver without knowing what to do first. So how do I do this without ruining the interior?

2) In addition, I want to remove the factory radio to attach a iPod interface that connects to the CD changer connector. So how do remove the radio?

Do I need any special tools for these actions?

Sincerely,
snooktarpon

To remove the floor console to replace those parts, you need to kung fu grip it off. Grab it from the side where you see the seam. Just yank it upwards. Before you do this, grab the parking brake handle with both hands and pull it up as far as you can. Unsnap the leather then do the rest.
Once you get it up a bit, disconnect the traction and sport mode buttons and then the cigar lighter connectors. Also put it in neutral first. Wont matter cause park brake is on.

For radio, pull the lower smiley shape blanking plate off. Then the two pieces on each side of the radio from bottom upward. Remove the 4 now exposed 8mm bolts and radio will come out. Do this while you are doing the other piece as easiest when in neutral.

I just read that when I remove the power to the radio, I will need a theft code to reactivate the radio.

Can I just call my local Jag dealer for this code (provide them with my VIN and radio serial #)?

FYI, I purchase the car used so I do not know the original dealer.

Sincerely,

If after hooking it back up it has code showing, email me vin and I will give you code. Providing of course it is the original radio.

OK, I replaced the ashtray housing and cup holder. Quite the PITA. The problem is that I had to cut out the cigarette lighter from the ashtray housing to remove it (it was design to snap it and not snap out). There is a green colored plastic sheath that lights up around the cigarette lighter. I had to separate this from the actual cigarette lighter to insert this back into the housing. Just this task took me about 30-45 minutes!

BTW, when I use the kung-fu grip to remove the center console, I couldn't separate the center console at the hinge for the floor console glove compartment. I was afraid of breaking something if I pulled too hard. Anyways, I was able to get enough clearance at the front to remove the ashtray and cupholder.

Next week, the removing the radio.
