How to programme key fob for S Type

I'm a real novice with S Type or any type Jaguars but I'd like to share my little bit of success here.
Bought 1999 S Type with key fobs not working. Googled problem and found solution on fixya. It may well be on this site too but it actually worked for me. Here it is and it worked first time.

"Turn ignitiion on/off 8 times (allow all functions to stabilise) after the 9th on - press a button on both remote fobs. then turn ignition off. Use good remote to lock and then try new remote to unlock/lock. sometimes it works first time - sometimes you have to repeat actions. good luck."

Hope this helps someone out there.

So are you saying you bought new fobs and programmed them this way or the original fobs started working again?

I am pretty sure this won't work on the 03 and up.

I think it does not reprogram (*). It may re-sync the rolling code, if you're lucky.

(*) which only a dealer / specialist locksmith can do

:icon_that: That's my feeling also.

Has anyone managed to programme new fob this way?

Right perhaps I used the wrong wording ie programme maybe sync instead. All I know is I bought this 1999 S Type and the fobs that came with the car would not work at all so I was unlocking car with key only. So with these old existing fobs I did the on/off 8 times procedure and now they work.

reprogramming key fob

Hi thanks for the answer. When you say "press a button on the remote", do you need to press at the same time? does it need to be the same button? do you have to repeat this for all buttons?

thanks

Marc
