Good evening everyone. My S type R from 2001 which only drives from time to time needs recharging of the battery. So tonight I unplug the + and - terminals, I do not take the battery out of the trunk and I plug in my charger. Then automatically I close the trunk and you will laugh ... impossible to reopen it ... and there I do not know how to unlock it ... Fortunately the car is open but I am really bored. I can no longer reconnect the battery. Does anyone have a way to get me out of this mess? Thank you for your future answers.

He has a 2001. The key fits to the right of center on the early models. I think it's under the "U" in Jaguar.

If the key doesn't work, please see this link for how to apply power to open the trunk electrically:

Mille merci Norri!! Je n'ai pas le fascicule du conducteur de la voiture et je ne savais pas que l'on pouvait ouvrir avec la clef. Me voilà soulagé. Pour info la serrure de coffre est sous le U de jaguar.

Bonne soirée Noori

OlivierA thousand thanks Norri !! I do not have the driver's manual of the car and I did not know that you could open with the key. Here I am relieved. FYI, the trunk lock is under the U of jaguar.

Good evening Noori

You are lucky that Jaguar decided with this model at least, to go to the expense of fitting a good old fashioned lock to the boot!
Pity they didn't spend some more dollars on a full size spare tyre..

Huh? My '02 has a full-sized spare. Did later models go to a space-saver spare?

BTW, I corrected how you spelled "tire". Must have been an auto-correct thing...

I remember the media here going nuts hounding Jaguar on national television on a current affairs program soon after Jaguar introduced the space saver spare on their S-Type. One viewer must have contacted the show and whinged about how his expensive luxury car only had a space saver tyre instead of a proper spare.
Must have been when the x202 came out and Jaguar decided to save some dollars introducing the space saver spare.
The reporter wouldn't leave Jaguar alone and I think they even had a senior executive from Jaguar appear the next day on air trying to justify the decision, after some derision from the reporter..
I remember this reporter on the show ('A Current Affair'), quizzing the exec as to why there was this little tyre, that was only "limited to only 50 miles per hour" plonked in a boot well that was designed to take a full size spare? And why Jaguar decided to do this? A fair question, which the Jaguar exec didn't find an easy one to answer.
Not sure why they targeted Jaguar? Must have been one of the first here to offer this stupid idea...

Auto correct is not always your friend!
