Man charged in drag racing death with Riski..
 

I hate to bring this up, but did anyone see this? The guy in the Subaru was racing and was charged with Riski's death back in Oct. He's now in prison, he got 20 years.

I hope this tragedy will alter some foolish behavior out there on the public streets. I have no sympathy for either of the guys who made the incredibly stupid and fatal decision to drag race, but my heart goes out to the family of the innocent 62-year-old woman who was killed as a result of their moronic actions. I truly hope her family can find some peace....

Wow. I knew Joe was drag racing when he was killed. Two dead and one with 20 years who'll likely be released in 5 for good behavior. What a waste.

No happy endings to be found anywhere in this story.

A guy my wife used to date was drunk driving in a big lifted truck that ended up running over another car and killing the driver. I think he only got like 2 or 3 years, hes out already. I doubt this guy will see anywhere near 20 years.

Its hard to pass judgment here. I think we have all street raced before, whether it be to see who is going to go highest speed on highway til other one chickens out or a drag race from a street light. I think as a 36 year old father of two, those days are done for me but I caught myself showing a BMW 335 whats up the other day. Stay safe and use good judgment.

I hesitate to pass judgement on these guys as well. I'm no saint. I've done dumb things and made bad choices.

I will say, though, that out-and-out street racing is something that I gave up decades ago. Too many close calls, too much risk. Too easy to get caught up in a "win or die" scenario.

I like fast cars and fast driving but there's a time and a place for everything. I am *very* selective about where and when I get my horsepower kicks. That means about 97% of my driving is sane and legal.

If I'm gonna do something crazy I make sure that I'm the only one who will be killed.

I wish I was familiar with the road to try to venture a guess as to how the accident occured. From reports it's a long two-way road with big straightaways between traffic lights however there's a portion that turns into 1 lane eitherway. My only guess is that as Riski and the Subaru reached the 1 line portion they were neck and neck and the Subaru wouldn't budge, instead of braking Riski tried to stay in the race by going into the oncoming lane and the crash occured. Another possiblity is that while in that section of road Riski was behind the Subaru and made a move to overtake into oncoming traffic and did not see the oncoming car. Of course I'm just guessing but it's all we can do.

What's important is that they decided to engage in this behavior not that they didn't do it successfully.

Agree Bob. Chris and I are just trying to decipher the mechanics of the incident.

The real tragedy here, as John metioned, is the 62 yr. old Migdalia Bloch. I mean C'Mon, she was coming home from work and got smacked head on. People make descisions, and they should be accountable...unfortunately she was not able nor did she have a choice in the matter.

Joe, couldn't have agreed with you more. She's out of life and her family lost her forever. What a whacked-out helpless situation. Causes me to re-think/re-tool my own behaviors.

All of your information is incorrect! Not only did Riski try to instigate another vehicle into racing, but he caused his own death and the death of others! How completely irresponsible to be street racing! Mr. Salvesen was on his way home from work, Riski tried to get him to race, but instead, Salvesen tried to get away from him, slowing down and trying to get around him. Riski then chose to go into oncoming traffic just to see if he could get in front of Salvesen, who was oblivious to all of it since he was now in a completely different lane and surrounded by other cars. Now I ask you, is it right an innocent man goes away because Riski decided to bite off more then he could chew? NO. Start blaming the person that caused all of this.

Im guessing you were there and knew everything that happened right? Sounds like you are Salvesen's gf/sister/mother. Yes this is a great tragedy. No need to bring it up again.

He was sentenced to 20 years for his part in the street racing. I don't believe he was trying to get away!! He was driving a WRX and just drove away after the crash without stopping to even help and only got caught because another motorist got his license plate and reported it. Multiple witness stated they were racing.

Even more stupid was that Riski was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash!!

Please don't whitewash his behavior. He should have got 20 years!! Remember he got off very light. He could have been dead!

Driving 25 MPH can kill innocent people. I'm not going to judge whatever happened here too harshly...

IMHO the only innocent in this incident was Mrs Bloch.

Yes, that's one of the principle goals of 'racing' and why people get sent to jail. Had Riski survived (sorry to be harsh) he would be in jail too.

Sad story for everyone involved. The poor ladies family, and both mens families. One might be alive but his life sounds very much ruined for a long time socially. Mentally, even with out jail time the toll is huge. God bless all of them and their families!
