Mass air flow

Could anyone tell me if it is easy to change the Mass air flow sensors?
2005 s type diesel.
Or if it is difficult, approx Labour time for a garage to do it
Thanks in advance.

Hi David and welcome to the forum.
Please introduce yourself here:

I am not sure about the diesel version but on petrol brothers the MAF Sensor is the easiest thing swap out. Should be located right after the air box on the intake tube.

Just FYI, the petrol version S Types like the Densi OEM sensors. Do not go cheap only leads to problems.

Good luck and let us you know how you make out.

You can pay a garage £50 to replace the MAP sensor, or do it yourself.

Refer to the Workshop Manual for the location and procedure. If you don't have the Workshop Manual, you can purchase one here:

Sensors

joycesjag 10-02-2018 02:43 PM

Both really simple to replace.

I believe the 2.7 turbo diesel has only a manifold absolute pressure sensor. It's been awhile since I've looked at a diesel S-Type.

JagV8 10-03-2018 11:03 AM

It's got two, yes TWO, MAFs - weirdly.

Can't see both or even one being faulty and no codes, though.

David Corfield 10-03-2018 11:21 AM

Thank you. The fault codes throw up as being a faulty MAF, doesn't indicate which one however.
i have ordered one and will try it on both, to try and pick out the faulty one.
Couldn't do a regeneration on the DPF as there is a fault on the MAF.......grrrrr

JagV8 10-03-2018 11:47 AM

There are unique codes per MAF so something odd going on.

i found this out the hard way after 3 ebay 14 dollar ones..the entire engine management system is denso..even a bosch lambda sensor makes trouble i found out.

Hmm....I have several readouts, supplied by the AA:
PO102-mass or volume air flow circuit:error message: Malfunction. Error sporadic. Status:UO164-CAN communication with air conditioner control unit. Error message:Malfu Malfun. Historical fault. Status:P244B-Diesel particulate filter. Error message: Malfunction.

David Corfield 10-03-2018 12:09 PM

Took it to my local garage, their bit of kit said MAF fault.

JagV8 10-03-2018 03:58 PM

They look not to be using the Jaguar OBD tool.

Probably that's MAF A.

where are the MAFs on those..... before and after the turbo or air cleaner maybe....just curious...more knowledge you know

In the garage today, will let you know the outcome.
Thanks for your assistance.

Replaced MAF sensor, fault still remains. Will drive fine for 3-4 miles, then yellow and red light, restricted performance. Garage attempted to do a regeneration, however the car kept going into limp mode. Plugged another diagnostic reader in, it read there was 3.2g of soot, doesn't sound a lot, also the read out said that there hadn't been any failed regen attempts. The pressure hoses for the DPF to the regulator had a split, repaired that, problem still there.
i am at a loss as what to do next.
