Default My S type bites the dust.

We've had a lot of fun out of this car for 3 years, but finally the rot has gone too far. Its failed the MOT and the corrosion underneath is not financially worth it. I can buy a newer better car for less than the cost of fixing this one.
I haven't fitted some quite expensive new parts and I will put them in the for sale section here for anyone with a compatible model incl 2 new Bilstien sport front shocks.

Is there a specialist jaguar breaker in England who could benefit from parts on this car? It's an 86k miles car.

Its not over yet with jaguar. Possibly another s type or? I'd like an xj but my little lady might be difficult to convince.

Sorry to hear the MoT went badly.

Many of the specialist Jaguar breakers in the UK source their stock direct from insurance companies but Black Country Jaguar Dismantlers in the Midlands advertise as buyers of MoT failures etc:

Once you start selling off parts for sale yourself, the shell can hang around for a very long time and then cost a fortune to scrap at a Vehicle Depollution Centre.

Wow, rusted that bad? What year is it? My 04 is pretty spotless as far as the frame, and the car has spent most of its life in Chicago, where winter road salting is pretty much a way of life.

Thank you Graham, I will give those guys a call.
We are a bit sad because we love the car and we have had some great times out in it in the last 3 years. It still looks beautiful from the cills upwards.
The car has never let us down. It has always started 1st time. Its never been in restricted mode.
The car has been a real joy and the community here is great ! It is a very strong community and that's worth a lot when choosing our next car.
I think because my little lady loves the car too, its probably going to be another S type.

The bits I have to sell are not on the car so good job really.

Its a late 2002 2.5 Litre petrol V6.
Looking at the car from above you would never know, the paintwork is very good apart from the inside edges of the wheel arches, where it starts to bubble.
But both cills, the drivers side floor pan and chassis members are really bad. My mobile mechanic showed the photos on his phone.
I think there is a big difference between cars that have been garaged and those left standing outdoors.

Thats a bummer busa. I have been on this board a long time. I cannot remember too many S Type owners with rusting vehicles.

Thank you for your contributions! Good luck with your new quest.

There will be (probably already have been) plenty here in the UK as the climate is just about ideal for causing rust

Oh I understand that. Same here in the northern states. We just do not hear about the rust factor here on JF that much.

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
Once the rot starts if runs fast. It's not just rust, it's when large chunks of metal fall off.
But I've had a few older cars and the rust is inevitable unless it's kept in a warm garage for most of its life. Cleaning the wheel arches out properly can help delay the process.

I would like another s type but it's a matter of finding the right car at the right price.

Sorry to be brief but I came down with flu yesterday evening. Hit me like lightning bolt. Speak to you again soon. Bye for now.
