Need adviceon how to remove backup sensor
 

The Driver's side bachup sensor on my 2003 STR is not making the clicking sound like the other 3 sensors. I cant figure out how to remove and replace the sensor.
I think the sensor is retained inside of a circular plastic housing.Do you just pry this sucker out with a screwdriver from the outside?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Bob, someone asked this question several months ago. There were not alot of ideas posted. DO NOT pry anything. I believe that you have to get up under the vehicle and remove wire harness then twist the sensor and push out (again I state "I believe"). The rear bumper skin (facia) may have to be removed before doing this. If you can wait until tomorrow, I will try this on my wifes vehicle.

Thanks for your reply. I can just reach the sucker in between the tailpipe and the bumper. I took the connector off the sensor and then plugged it back in, but the steady 3 second back up beep persists everytime you put the car in reverse.
I think I can get at it without removing the bumper since it's on the driver's side corner. I just can't tell by looking at it how it stays in place, must be FM. I only want to do this once. I can wait until I get instructions.

Max, if eventually you are still stuck, after Rick has committed Seppuku, have an in depth read of the S Type section, although I don't own one, I am sure that I have seen this before.

Max, if you look at the parking aid sensor, at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions, you will see 2 clips there on the sides. You will need to pull out on these clips as you are pushing on the sensor (push the sensor into the bumper using your thumb). This will allow you to disengage both clips. From there, once both clips are released, push the sensor all the way out. Install is simply pushing the sensor through the hole from the inside out.

OK. Looking at the replacement sensor and the bumper. It appears that the sensor is retained INSIDE the painted housing that you see on the outside of the bumper. So I assume that the sensor replacement occurs completely INSIDE the bumper, somehow you need to get two hands on that sensor to twist and/or pry retaining clips and/or pull it away (pull towards front wheels) from the painted housing...Is that right?
I'm certain this would be simple with the bumper off the car but with the bumper on and not much room I dont want to snap it off.

Max, what I would suggest, get your hands on 2 small flat bladed screw drivers (something close to what you would work on a pair of glasses with, but maybe a little bigger). Stick them in next to the sensor to hold the tabs out (this can be done with a single hand). Once you do that, as long as the screw drivers are in far enough to allow the tab to not be engaged, you can push on the sensor to get it out. Installing is going to be much easier. The big thing there is getting the orientation correct so it will lock back into place.

This is exactly what I was able to do and I was able to replace the sensor without too much difficulty. The suspect sensor was the corner driver's side so I could get one hand on it. All is well now, the sensors operate like new. Thanks for the help, On to the next problem.
