Hello all. My 2005, V-8 (4.2L) S-Type has had ongoing and unending Air Conditioning issues. My mechanic tells me that the latest ill is that the supply line and A/C manifold are shot. This has led to the compressor failing. He is going to replace the entire system for $1800 (US). While I hate to pay this, I can't live without A/C in New Orleans. So, is that price in line with a total fix? THANKS!

 

The price is right, I guess, but it sounds like this "mechanic" doesn't know squat and can't figure out much. I would get another opinion.

 

If you can't do it yourself then you will need to trust the repair shop.

Get a second opinion. The suction and liquid hoses may only need replacement. If bad rare that it will lead to compressor failure since the compresor cuts off by the the low pressure switch
