Default New videos of oil change with tightening of shift linkage... FAQ

OK finally got my oil change videos uploaded. I film these in HD so I try to keep them at the best quality after editing them. These I had to drop to 720p and I'll probably have to keep the new one at that. It takes about 2 hours to upload the 720p's and when I keep it at 1080 seems to give me problems so I should have a nice rhythm uploading them now. Some I would upload to only have problems and have to do it again. Now they should upload the first time.
Ok so back to these videos they are of an oil change for anybody who wants to DIY but arent sure what to do. I also tighten the shift linkage and look around the trans pan for leaks. You'll have to excuse my terminology as I was really tired and wasnt talking all that good. But you should get what I'm trying to say. You'll also have to excuse the loud racing going on. If you go through the woods behind my house about 300 yards you'll be at the end of the dragstrip here and they had a race going on. But it was some nice background noise. So on to the videos. Thanks for the comments and hope you guys enjoy.

Disclaimer: Make sure you follow the directions and DO NOT TOUCH the bolt I talk about when checking you linkage. If you are using a 12MM doing something there YOU ARE WRONG. Please dont ask me how I know. I was very tired yesterday morning when I did this. I had a friend come over and I did a ton of work to his car right before doing this which is why it seems like I have more tools out then I should for an oil change.

Disclaimer 2: If you are using ramps make sure you use wheel chocks. I did hit the linkage but I had the wheels chocked so it didnt roll any but I heard it pop. If you do it and they arent chocked you will have to trust that your e-brake is working correctly.

I just saw this advertised in Autoweek and I think I'm going to give it a try. If it actually works it's a great idea.

Where was this when I had my Marauder. That was the worst for getting a mess. The filter was so hard to get too they actually had the power steering lines on a flexy mount so you cant move them to get your hand up there to get to it and you would get oil all over the crossmembers and power steering. Good link.

My old Q45 had the belly pan which was harder to get off than the Jag's and then you had to reach way up and in. It spilled all over the PS pump hoses down you're arm and into your armpit! A real SOB!

I'm not sure this thing would have worked on that car.

But the STR actually isn't all that bad. The filters are more expensive from all suppliers. I like Wix filters a lot because they have such a great reputation for quality so I'm using theirs. It's just such a puny sized looking filter though.

Good job, Vance....

On our 2005 3.0's ZF transmission, both shift linkage bolts are 8 mm. I wonder why one of yours is a 10 mm bolt....

Just a quick question that might have been answered before. What does tightening of the shift linkage do?

Its just a prevenative maintenance thing. If you ever see post where people are stuck in park its cause Jag has had a problem of those bolts coming loose and when they fall out you dont have enough tension in the cable to shift it out of park or into it if you are in drive when they fall out. So its a good thing to just do since you are down there anyways just for peace of mind.

Mine is an 05 so maybe they went to the 10mm and 8mm then. Just as long as you arent grabbing a 12mm you should be good.

Its ok it was sythenic oil. I'm just kidding. I hate gloves I have no idea why but I just cant stand them. I was supposed to wear them when I was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan in case of IED's since ours are fire resistent and I told them looks like I'll just have some burnt hands. I did wash them as soon as I was done with some GOJO orange. Maybe I have a glove phobia. I am actually thinking about trying out the Mechanix gloves I hear those are nice.
