Default Now A One Car Family

Just the two of us. My wife had a leased '08 Nissan Altima, which she got new and was due to be returned next month. Her son decided to buy it from her, mainly because it is in pristine condition with just under 7,000 miles on it. Last week, she bought it from the dealer for just under the residual value plus fees.
Today she and her son did the paperwork and since it's his birthday next month ..ahhhh "gave" it to him, eliminates other financial hassels.
We've been married 11 years and always had our own cars.
Now, we're going to have to coordinate our errands so as not to need the Jag at the same time.
We'll see how long this lasts....

You live in California, it just can't be done. Give up now and go get that second vehicle.

With that instead of being a One Car Family sounds like it should just be your wife doesnt have a car. LOL . If she only drove 7000 miles in 2-3 year doesnt sound like you guys will have to coordinate much so shouldn't be that bad.

Good time to hide the keys where only you can find them

Nahhh, just get an STR and let her drive the 3.0

Some good friends of ours decided to become a one-car family last summer. Both are retired now and they saw this as an opportunity to continue to cut major expenses. Thus far it is still working for them - as you said, transportation coordination is the key. Early next year they plan to move to a community near Ocala, Florida where golf carts are utilized far more often than cars are....

I don't think we could ever make it work in our household....

Forgot to say that we're both retired, so it may work out, but who knows..

No hiding keys, I value my life
Getting an STR would make sense (for me), but, alas, I have no cents...

I would love to do that, but my social security check won't cover that along with other things..
When I win the lottery, then I'll do it..
