Default Opportunity for New Wheels - Should I Go For It?

My neighbor up the street has borrowed my 3,000 psi pressure washer (a Father's Day gift from my wife last year) a couple of times in the past few months. He wants to trade a set of 20-inch BBS wheels and tires that he can no longer use (he sold the car) for my pressure washer. These wheels supposedly will fit our S-Type. He'll get me the tire specs and the bolt patterns a little later on today. BBS wheels came installed on my wife's old 1989 Acura Legend two decades ago and I know they're typically worth thousands. My pressure washer cost maybe $400 at Lowe's last June but like I said before, it was a gift from my wife....

Guys, what do you think? Would these BBS wheels do justice to our S-Type 3.0? Should I go for it?

Need pictures.

I've seen too many people destroy the beauty of this car with abysmal wheels. It's hard to find something elegant that fits seamlessly.

Jon - Do it, If you don't and they fit our cars, can I buy you a new pressure washer + shipping for the wheels? BBS doesn't make ugly wheels.

For a 20" Wheel you need a 20x8.5 max, 5x108 bolt pattern, Offset no lower than + 40 (they will stick out). You'll probably need a hubcentric ring. I believe BBS wheel center bore is either 73.1mm or 74.1 mm. The Jaguar hub bore is 64.1mm.

You'll need to run a 245/35/20 tire. You have a little wiggle room here, as far as tire size but NOT much.

Unless they were on an X or S Type, A 5 lug Volvo, a Lincoln LS, or a Ford Taurus, unfortunately chances are the bolt pattern is wrong

wheels, washer or wifeys feelings???? hmmmm tough one Jon, IMO. If the wheels fit, I'd take the deal buttttt..... I'd just by a new preasure washer for the neighbor, a grand or more in wheels for a $400 preasure washer sounds good to me! I personally use my preasure washer on a weekly basis here.

After thoughts Jon, whats next a 2 tone paint job, gold plating, dinggle ***** on the headliner, bobbing doggie on the the parcel shelf, where will it end??????????????

Whaaaa Whaaaa Whaaaaattttt!

Wait a min.... Mr Hate Big Wheels is thinking about putting HUGE 20" wheels on the Jag????

OK, all kidding aside, I would probably love them. Your wife will most likely hate the way the car rides with wheels like that on it. It will greatly affect the way the S drives..

Wait a minute...Is this an April Fools joke????

Congrats, Jeff. This one was aimed directly at you. You passed with flying colors....

Happy April Fools Day everybody! I wouldn't put a set of tractor wheels on our S-Type if you paid me to do it....

I thought something smelled fishy when you said your 89 Legend came with BBS wheels...

LOL well I have to admit Jon - you got us good.

I on the other hand am torn between a couple different sets of 19" - 20" wheels at the moment. I haven't driven an S on 20's but I have 19's (that used to not shake) and there really isn't THAT much of a noticeable ride difference between them and the stock wheels.

George,

The only true statement in my post is that our 1989 Acura Legend L did indeed come with a set of BBS wheels. It was also a 5-speed manual, extremely rare for a Legend in those days. It was to be my wife's daily driver, and it was also a birthday present from me. The dealer played me like a violin by slapping those wheels on the car before I brought her over to see it the day after it arrived in the showroom. Once she saw it, she didn't want the car without the BBS wheels. I thought it was foolish, but she (and the dealer) won that one. Never bought another car from them again. That was either the last or next-to-last new vehicle we ever bought. I finally convinced her that swallowing the full depreciation is just plain stupid....

Thats hysterical.

Jeff, good work, if I didn't read this at midnight last night I may have picked up on it, especially didn't register that they were 20's. Mr. Cosmetics are for fiscally irresponsible people would never get those kind of rims even if it was a ridiculous deal like in the fable he just imagined.

Nice one Jon!

If I were you, I'd actually fit the proposed wheels onto the car both front and back to be sure they don't foul anything. I read one case where the balance weight was fouling something and causing a regular thump--thump--thump. So the clearances must be fairly tight...
