Default Pre-Purchase Checklist???

I am going to look at a 2007 S-type 3.0 w. 23k miles tomorrow morning. I am not very familiar with Jaguars, having only joined the forums a few weeks ago. Is there a pre-purchase checklist available? If not, what are the common issues I need to look for/ ask about on this car?

Thanks in advance.

cbh, alot to read but start here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ype-faq-41364/ and here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...es-here-40522/

Pay attention to the following specifically:

DCCV Valve (A/C and Heating)

Coolant Tank Reservoir

IMT O-Ring check

ZF 6HP26 transmission sleeve leak

Front End Alignment

Take a flashlight with you and look down in the belly pan (under the engine) for any type of oil leaks. While you are out on your test drive, stop at one of the local BIG box auto parts stores and have them "check codes", if any codes other than a P1111 appear inquire to the owner, dealer why the codes have just been cleared.

Code P1111 is a code that means the drive cycles have not been cleared lately, trying to conceal any problems.

Good Luck

+1 on checking by looking under the belly pan... I got a car at 42K miles and it a slight Oil Pan Gasket leak which I discovered after 4 months of ownership...

Make sure there are no leaks under engine and transmission.

And while driving make sure it doesn't have the conventional ZF transmission lurch (Jaguar S-Type Ownership Experience - The ZF LURCH Fault for more info). I just had a software update from jaguar to fix it... And some dealers charge upto $250-300 (if you are unlucky to have one of such dealers in your town) to just update the software which normally fixes it.

Just in case you don't know if you have a single key with the car and want to have another one, another $250-300 for just a key .

If you can get service record history for the car, thats awesome to know what has already been done on the car.

Best of luck with the potential purchase.

Best Regards,
Rizwan

One thing to think about also, if you are NOT a DIYer check into an extended warranty. If something like I mentioned does go bad, a warranty would pay for itself!

What's the initial date of registration? It may still be under factory warranty. Are there any "Select Edition" late models around? 100,000 miles or 6 years factory warranty from initial registration date...
Might be worth a look..
Good luck..

Based on the Carfax, I believe that the registration date was November of 2007. I am not familiar with the "Select Edition," how do I determine if the car is one?

The car is at Carmax, so I am not sure if they would know about the factory warranty or not.

To check and see if it is a Select Edition Certified car; you will need to be the third owner to start.. Then a call to a Jaguar dealer can confirm by VIN if the car was certified. If you are looking for a one owner car that is certified, the only place to purchase one is a Jaguar Dealer. There are still certified S Types out there.

Ok, thanks. We looked at a CPO Used 2008 Jaguar S-TYPE 3.0 V6 For Sale | Cockeysville MD, and it was a nice car, but they wouldn't budge on the price.

IIRC, Jaguar has a standard factory warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles. This one is still under factory warranty until Nov. of this year. Does not matter where it's sold, you're still covered for now. Is there a Jag dealer near you? That's where you can take it for any covered repairs.
