Rear sun blind?!
I've recently aquired a 4.0 V8 1999 that i'm breaking for spares and i've came across what looks to be a sun blind on the back parcel shelf, It has a motor attatched and a plug etcc.. I've done some research online about it but nothing has really came up about it. Does anyone know how it works, the value of it etcc..? Out of all the S types i've owned and people i know who has owned an S type it's never had a sunblind on the back parcel shelf? Any info would be appreciated.

Mine has it. There's a control switch on the overhead panel. Rarely use it.

A rare option on the S Type for sure. I have never seen one in person.

Mine has one, use it sometimes when parking outside on a hot day. It raises up from the rear deck when two arms unfold and carry the fabric upwards. ================================================== Jaguar: Grace, Pace, and Space - Sir William Lyons Current Mine: '08 Jaguar S-Type 4.2 "Satin Edition" (250.06 whp / 259.67 torque) Current Hers: '13 Lexus ES350 Past Ours: '05 X-Type 3.0/auto Jaguar Racing Green |
Mine has one too. I keep it up , it ads to the dark window look as we are only allowed 35% tint and it's half assed as far as tint goes ! and obveastly protects the leather from the sun.

Yep. My 3.0Se (1999 model year) has one.
I am sure it was an option in the UK but I will dig out the original show room brochure to check. Sometimes, these things were bundled into an "option pack", eg heated seats + headlamp wash + power fold mirrors. |
Rear sunblind retrofit?
I have seen a few used ones appear for sale. Does make sense if you are in a sunny part of the world. Has anyone done a retrofit? I may buy one?

Have seen a few retrofitted now! But the sunblind themselves are very scarce. Here’s one for sale on eBay which is a good price. I’ve brought one before which was ‘untested’ and worked fine! Was almost as new. Not much to go wrong with them really https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F142643526569 |
Would love to have one. In Florida,(USA) you could use it any day your out for a drive. The question I would have is : How would one go about setting it up to work as it came from the Factory, or any way for that matter. Thanks.

I've got one lying around for the pre facelift car that I bought accidentally, haven't been able to even give it away!

In terms of rarity though I dare say this particular one for the facelift is probably the most difficult to find!!!
