Should I change transmission fluid on my 2003 SType?
I have a 2003 Stype 4.2L non-turbocharged car that now has 118,000 miles on it. I know the manual says "sealed for life" with regard to the transmission and I haven't had any problems, but I wondered what the prevailing opinion is on when or if I should change the fluid and filter?
Thanks for your reply,

+1 on changing gearbox fluid and other fluids. The ZF 6HP26/28 is used by many other marques with the pan/filter, electrical connector sleeve and fluid being readily available. You can do the service yourself, or have a Jaguar specialist perform the work for you. The gearbox fluid should be changed every 50 to 60 thousand miles.
Another critical area on the normally aspirated AJ33 is the water outlet, which contains the thermostat. The water outlet is made of plastic and can only withstand a finite of cold to hot to cold cycles before failing.
You should definitely have it changed along with a new pan if you want to keep the car. The filter is built into the pan. I'll add a link to the best place for ZF parts. Get the kit if you can and stick to the ZF fluid in the trans, only about half will drain out, so add the same product. Print out the directions for whoever does the job if you can. I had mine done at a local competent transmission shop for about $150. After you're done, it's good for 50,000 miles.

To pay a shop for what I did would easily be $1000+ Maybe $850-ish by someone willing to do it for cheap. (replacing the hoses was a fair amount of work and requires draining the radiator)
