Lost Communication With Gear Shift Control Module "A"

I've exhausted my resources.
The Park indicator is not coming on. Cannot select Sport Mode.

This happened after I pulled into a fuel station to wash the windscreen. After washing the windshield, got back in the car and could not get out of Park.
Finally found a video on Youtube on how to use a long flat blade screwdriver to release the Park interlock so I could get off the fuel island and get on home.

I'm confused by the 2997...

I'd start by checking the 2 bolts for the transmission shifter cable. They're on the side of the transmission (access from under the car). One or both may be loose or even missing.

I had my car up on the lift today. My brother has a collision repair shop with most tools to repair collisions.
Anyway was able to verify the security of the bolts you spoke of on the drivers side of the tranny.

Please check that code as it has the wrong number of characters.

Is it current and if so which module?

Which other modules have codes?

U codes are very unusual and rare to see. These are network errors. I think the one you have is for the CAN bus. Please try to post your exact code because as JagV8 said you have too many numbers in it.

I found this as it's the closest to what your description is?
"U0103 Lost Communication With Gear Shift Module"

I would take it to a dealer because of the type of code. Maybe some kind of wiring problem or that module might be bad.

If I could get a Gear Shift module cheap on EBay I would be tempted to change it before going to the dealer. But that is a left field long shot.

Does anyone know if that module requires programming? I know some modules will say requires programming on the module itself.

Good news:
Opened up the gearshift selector module and found the circuit board had some caramelized fuzz on it. Cleaned with some Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner and used compressed air to gently blow off anything that may have been clinging to the board electrostatically.

While I had the Gear Shift Module apart to get at the circuit board for cleaning, I applied a cord to the Park unlock solenoid shaft in front of the pin that passes through the shaft. I drilled a hole in the console container and installed a grommet to route the cord through. Now when and if I need to get out of Park for a tow all I need to do is lift out the cup holder and pull on the cord to release the Park interlock.

Thanks for the repair instructions because that was a very odd error we just don't see.

Glad it was a cheap fix and sometimes you just need to take it apart and look at what is going on.
