Stuck shifter on 2003 Stype R with CATS

Hi all: I have a 2003 Jaguar Stype R with CATS and am new to the forum. Together with my mechanic, I found a solution for shifters that are stuck in PARK. I believe this will work for any Stype. Start car and press brakes, all the way in, keeping the shifter on PARK. The red light that normally comes on when engine is on and car is on P will be blinking. Keep foot on brakes until the blinking light becomes STEADY. This will take a few seconds. Once this blinking red light on P becomes STEADY (no blinking), it is VERY easy to shift tranny into gear: in my case REVERSE because I have to back out of the garage. Have been doing this for a week and it works every time!!

Sounds good but in my case it lead to a total freeze which was solved by a new J-gate. If you car is pre-change then you can by only the electrics. Hope you don't face it but forewarned is............

You're bypassing a fault that's probably an easy fix. Commonly one or both bolts on trans side is loose/missing. If they both drop out your "fix" will fail.

Or it could be low on fluid. Keep driving in that case and ruin the box.

I'd go looking for what's wrong before it gets more serious.

Thanks for the advise JagV8. I have checked the bolts and they are fine-provided I checked the RIGHT bolts. Can you tell me please on which side of the tranny these bolts are? How are they attached to the tranny? If possible, can you send me a picture of the bolts as they are attached to the tranny? I will have transmission fluid level checked today and keep you informed. THANKS AGAIN!

Martyn-R: thanks for your advise. I have a question:
What do you mean by "pre-change?"

Thanks again

Well, it finally happened! The shifter on my 2003 Jag Stype R is stuck on park. It used to "click" when I started the engine and pressed the brakes, then it would easily move from P to D or whatever gear I wanted. No longer!
I guess I will have to take it to the Jag Dealership and get ripped to have this fixed. I am thinking of selling it after I get it fixed. Any advise?

You could read how others DIYed it. But if uninclined to DIY, an older high-tech prestige performance car may not be for you.
