Throttle Position Sensor SOLVED!
 

The non-availability of a new replacement Denso 198500-3300 TPS has been the subject of much discussion on these forums. I am pleased to report that I found one on the internet for about$100. I cleaned the throttle body on my '04 V6 and installed it and it works perfectly! No reprogramming or Jag voodoo required! The only trick is to have the bit for the TPS screws. This is a common 5-point torx TS20 tamper-resistant bit, not a Jaguar specialty bit. Regular torx are 6-point and don't work. A set including the correct bit is available on Amazon for $8.99. I ordered the TPS from automotivepartsfactory.com. It was advertised for the X-type, but works perfectly on my S-Type (and, I expect, the XKs as well). I hope this helps you guys avoid having to buy a new throttle body from Jaguar. Carl

It should work for any engine that uses the Denso 198500-3300 TPS. The number is embossed on the TPS and is easily readable on the V6.

S-Type 2002.5 onwards; 2.5L, 3.0L, 4.2L, 4.2L S/C
X-Type 2.5L & 3.0L
X350 XJ 3.0L, 3.5L, 4.2L, 4.2L S/C
XF 3.0L N/A, 4.2L, 4.2L S/C

Same TPS fitted to different throttle bodies.

Mine has issues so I will obtain one and try it on my XJR and report back.

Bought a cheaper TPS on EBay, and it threw the ESC, brake fault, & DSC error codes after installing and reinstalling it several times. I put the original TPS back on and the car acted completely normal. Must be a bad part, returning it and trying to find an OEM part.

No........internals are the same but mechanical linkage is different. If you were feeling particularly adventurous you could unsolder the track from the new one and fit it to the faulty unit. It is possible to do.

I see two sensors listed on that site, neither of which are Denso brand. There is this one for $35.99

I've had TPS problems in the past which I cured temporarily with cleaning and dielectric grease. I'm going to order the more expensive one - maybe more expensive is better? (Plus, Motor King sounds better than Issyzone.)

Do the tracks have the same electrical characteristics?

I'm planning on replacing my throttle body for the same TPS error code people here are experiencing (P1251). Has anyone had success curing the Engine Systems Fault / DSC / Park Brake error with one of these TPS sensors?

ha jaguar dealers in aukland new zealand replaced my hole throttle body because of that sensor ,before i bought the car the receipt says the part alone was $1280nzd .
it went on to fail again as they did not do the TSB water proof patch above the tps under the wiper panel and it got wet again ! clowns ! still thanks to them the car went up for sale and i took my chances with it , and love it .

I search, where in Europe to buy sensor "Denso 198500-3300" only (not complete trottle body), for my 2004 Jaguar X-type 2.5 (petrol), V6, AWD, classic, saloon ?

I saw possibilities from sellers from USA, but there ara big problems with shipping tax or customs.

Also, Asia is problem. If you want to buy Denso, they sell "chinese Denso", not "made in Japan".

I can find used Denso 198500-3300 or a new "non Denso" 198500-3300 ?

In that solution, better is used Denso 198500-3300 than chinese 198500-3300 .


Why I need to replace TBS?

I cannot solve that error several montsh and I do not know what to do, but engine works good.

There is no Jaguar service in Bosna i Hercerovine, so I usualy go to Ford service, because thay have tools.

I would first pull the plug for the sensor and spray it with contact cleaner then do a hard reset and see what takes place.

If I recall correctly the last time I checked a P1582 on a XType it was for an O2 sensor.

My TB and TBS were already cleaned, but yellow indicator light cannot desappear almost 8 months.

About "hard reset".

Reset and reprogramming are able to make only official Jaguar service. There is no licenced Jaguar Bosna i Hercegovina . In Beograd [Srbija] is the nearest Jaguar service but far from Mostar [Bosna i Hercegovina].

But, in Mostar is licenced Toyota service.

Denso 198500-3300 is used on a number of Jaguar engines and PERHAPS in several models of Toyota.

Maybe, somebody knows which models of Toyota use TPS, compatibile (or even same) as Denso 198500-3300.

Maybe, that Toyota's TPS has no equal number [198500-3300], but is same in functional meaning.

The number of product of that Toyota's TPS will help me.

P1582 is "flight" recorder data. Read the info - free to download!

It does not have anything in itself to do with TPS.

You have some fault that leads to P1582. Find that fault, then fix it.

Might be as simple as bad power.

If you want to decode P1582 get a cheap Mongoose-type tool but ONLY use it to read data.
