Default Door Lock Issues in Winter

Hey guys, I know this won't apply to most of ya (because you park youcar in the garage ordon't live in cold climates),but I was wondering if anyone has issues with their door locks latching during very cold temps (below freezing). I get this problem cause I live in Canada and I don't have a garage to park my car in.

I noticed that every winter, there will be a few days where my doors have no problem opening, but can't latch when i close the door. It's kinda funny because you would try to shut the door and instead it will swing open without pulling on the door release handle. It takes 3-4 mins of contanttampering with the latch oropening and closing of the doorto get the latch free so it can lock.

So is there anything to combat this problem?

Default RE: Door Lock Issues in Winter

Use white lithium grease.. your technically supposed to use graphite powder on door locks.. but in a cold climate like yours just use a spray can of white lithium which you can buy at either an auto parts store (better choice) or at a hardware store.. Just use the little red spray tube included and soak all of the locks and hinges (be sure to get it inside the latch mechanism), but dont wipe it off.. Also its completely safe on paint, so dont worry if you get some overspay on the car.. It stays in there for years so feel free to use A LOT.. good luck.
