Weird ABS light issue
 

Hello listers,
My local Jag tech is stumped with an ABS light issue, on a 2003 3 litre S-Type. The light remains on, even though the whole system is working.

- all abs sensors are working
- parking brake works, comes off automatically as it should, he performed the reset also.
- abs brakes work; this was tested on gravel road

The ABS warning light is on, and when scanned, he gets Park Brake Fault Hall Effect, 1177C

If anyone has an idea, we would be grateful. I wish we could just snip the wire to the light, but I know that's not the way.

How old is the battery?

A "Hall effect" sensor is one which responds to a moving (usually rotational) magnetic field; your ABS wheel sensor is a good example of this; yet, you say that all sensors are working correctly...

Odd, to say the very least.

It's got a fault code, apparently, so it's not working OK.

Where's the issue? Just fix it or change techs!

What are you using to get the fault code?
Is it a generic OBD2 tester?
If so, try using the dedicated Jaguar interface and appropriate IDS/SDD software. This should point you direct to the fault.
Sadly, this is not easy because as well as the dedicated interface the software for your car needs to run on a Windows XP PC with auto script to set the date and time to 01/08/2012 each time you start it.
It is also recommended that you have a 13.8v 20amp stabilized power supply connected to the battery to ensure the battery voltage is constant during any programming as if it drops down it can turn the various modules into useless bricks!
